This North Korea thing is really starting to scare me. Maybe we won't have to worry about the next election---how can Bush think about trying to legitimize the difference in policy between NK and Iraq? So far, all they are saying is "They're different because we say they're different."

Altho it's easy to look back at history, & realize that America has done plenty to piss people off. America seldom gets credit, for all the good it's done in the world. North Korea is a perfect ex. We seem to give them what they've wanted for yrs. They don't seem to be an extra proud people, as they don't refuse our grain ect. Doe's it actually go to the hungry. I personally dought it. Yet America will continue to give till it hurts.

*I'm not saying more couldn't be done. It's as if America is on a guilt complex (WITH GOOD REASON)and feels this need to help out, the rest of the world. I'm not sure where this War is going, yet I feel it is inevitable. I pray I'm wrong....

If a tiny fraction of the money that is spent, funding this 'War on Terror' or 'Showdown in Iraq' were spent on food and clothing. Well that wouldn't make any sence now would it???? NTM: Somebody brought this to the forefront some 60 some yrs. ago. It didn't sink in then. Altho, the theory is still out there. Waiting to be tapped!...

I guess about all I can do is 'Pray for World Peace' and vote! For now.

Dean just might be a viable candidate. A belated thanks for the links, lcj! I had gone to some of them before, but went back today to the rest. Dean has actually done something in Vermont about problems that everyone else either ignores or wrings their hands over. Going from governor to pres. candidate seems to work better historically than going from a congressional seat. Good luck to him!

Now I'd better go get in traffic and try to get home in time for the pre-meeting meeting of the No-Name Book Club (the Outer Time Zone Book Club?).

Now... about hillary... I hope she plays a major fund raiser and support role in the next election... win or lose she should come out as a mover and shaker... and situate herself very prominantly in place for the 2008 contest... which I think is the real plan. Notice her rise in the ranks of the senate?

So, does anyone think that Kerry's cancer diagnosis has any impact on his chances?
Even though the surgery went well, is there a stigma? Didn't Paul Tsongas completely tank after concerns about his ability to serve were floated?

I honestly thought Kerry was the best shot. If he's damaged by a health issue, that's trouble.

lcj, i missed that last post, about the Nader thing. I don't know if prostate cancer will hurt Kerry. It certainly could. I can't believe that anyone that dour was going to the candidate anyway. Have we learned nothing from candidates like Dukakis and Gore? Maybe Kerry would be better than Dukakis, but you've got to be able to change facial expression to run for president these days.

I do think that if everyone who doesn't want another Bush term votes for the same person we've got a shot. Nader could help with that as well as with Congressional races if he wants to. If he helps to re-elect Bush I'll have to get more voo-doo dolls.
Failing help from Nader, the 2004 election pretty much depends on what happens with Bush in the meantime. I can't believe that the public doesn't want his head on a stick by now, but not nearly enough of them do. People freakin' like him. As their jobs disappear, we prepare for war and more terrorism, more and more the world turns against us, the state budgets are in disasterous condition, the federal deficit is frightening, he prepares to do away with social security and medicare and in general he continues to be possibly the worst president this country has ever seen, he's really not all that unpopular. If the Green Party hasn't learned any math by the next presidential election he'll probably be back and with a mandate this time and if unseating Bush and as many Republicans as possible isn't the only and sole goal of the next few election cycles then I don't know what country they're living in but it's not the same one I'm in.

I feel your pain Pat. You won't have to do much arm-twisting to get me to support the Dem in 04, unless it happens to be Lieberman.

I don't think Kerrys face will cost him the race. Cmon, look at Bush. He looks just like Afred E Newman, and he got elected!

Keep your eyes and ears on the newest Dem candidate from Ohio, Dennis Kucinich. He was formerly Boy Mayor of Cleveland, and ran into some bad times there, but since then he's been in State and now National politics and he speaks from the heart. He has promised to create a Cabinet level Department of Peace.

I don't think he has a chance in the world of making it to the election, but he may force the other candidates to address some important issues, like health care, jobs and the economy, besides the war issue.
