Thank you Ronald Reagan, for arranging an extra day off for me... New York State offices and State University of New York, where I work, are closing for a "Day of Prayer and Remembrance" on Friday....

...though I can't help but wonder how many State employees will actually stay home and watch the funeral... I won't!

And will it save the State money? no... we're getting the day off with pay, and comp time to the people who are "essential" like the state police...

Bottom line is, Pataki is fishing for votes on the republican line in November...

But at this point, Arnold CAN'T become president... he wasn't born in the US, although there has been talk of changing that requirement for eligibility.

Reagan on the $10 bill????? I say, put his picture on the $1,000 bill. He cared very little about folks who carried $10 bills.

Not for us here. We're not state or federal employees, but we usually close when the courts close, what with being a legal services organization. However, our executive director decided that since Ronald Reagan did about everything he could do to shut us down during his whole eight years in office, and in fact did manage to limit our ability to seek justice for the poor in some areas, we would be open and working and celebrating the fact that 24 years after RR took office we're still here to serve the most unfortunate among us.

That's really cool and all, but I could have celebrated that from home just as well.

I read a lot of William Pitt's postings on Democratic Underground . He's often the voice of reason there.

Just a different slant on things. My husband works for the state, in PA. He's on the "front line" in the Welfare Department, interviewing those who apply and then has to make the decision based on about 10,000 books and revisions as to who gets what.

State offices aren't closed. We have a dem governor who just about destroyed Phila as mayor. He's not replacing Welfare workers who have finally thrown in the towel due to over-work and poor pay. The starting salary here is so low that we actually got food stamps when he first began working for the state! My husband's case load is SO high that he's about a month behind.... and that's "good" according to state specs over the past few months. He just teplaced someone in the "ongoing" department, having moved over from "intake" 2 months ago. They just shuffle the faster workers from area to area to try to make up for the shortfall. He's disgusted!

Terrie, I know what your husband's going through. I saw the same thing going on in Child Support here in Florida. Tried to organize the state workers but the bosses pressured me out. Good riddens! Now, I'm happily retired on my horse farm.

Don't know if any Florida offices are closed tomorrow. No mail, though, so no bills!

well tomorrow will actually be a national day of mourning after all... Ray Charles done hit the road Jack!

Man, it's gonna be a rainy night in Georgia no matter what the weather. Now Ray Charles is a guy they should stop the country for. The man was primo!

For Ray, I will mourn. I'm playing his music instead of watching the Reagan funeral...

Ray, thank you for your gift to the world.

He tripled the national debt, but he had such charisma! He supported apartheid, but he was always personable. He backed Saddam, but he made us feel good about ourselves! He crushed worker rights, but he was someone you could sit down and have a beer with. Star Wars turned out to be an expensive fantasy, but he had that infectious optimism! He backed death squads throughout Central America, but he always looked for the best in everyone. He looked the other way when Salvadoran allies raped Aemrican nuns, but he had that self-deprecating humor! He confused old movies with foreign policy, but he was always quick with a joke! He traded arms for hostages and diverted money to drug-running death squads but he never lost his sunny disposition. Remembering Reagan.
