I was hoping to see this film as a family, since Lance said he was interested. But Eric asked me last night to see it with him, not family-style, because he thinks the 2 of us will have some really good talks about it afterward.

I'm looking forward to finally seeing it, maybe Friday since neither of us have classes that day. I'll be sure to listen specifically for references to napalm. try this when you go see the movie...

Instead of seeing the movie as 'one of the choir', try playing devil's advocate.

consider entering with the mindset that moore is telling you half-truths, distortions, and is manipulating scenes and events to 'deceive' the audience. (and since it is an 'entertainment/documentary' this is all probably true to some extent)
go in with no predeterminations, and be skeptical of what you are being told...
and after seeing the movie, tell us what you thought, and how you felt.

Arnie, funny you should say that. That's already sorta how I feel.

I'm trying desperately to get rid of the "devil's advocate" that has lived inside me since I was little. My dad played that with us all those years and very recently my sister mentioned it, said she was sick and tired of it after all these years (she's his executor and he keeps playing the same devil's advocate with us now over his estate and some other things). None of us knows what the "real" truth is as he has us all going in circles over the estate and those "other things" and it's always like a "test" with him. We never acxtually "learn" from it, so what's the point?

So, going in with a different POV won't be too dificult for me at all. My problem will be in deciding what to believe IS the REAL truth in the end. And that's partly why I've waited to see it. I don't WANT to believe what Moore is saying... I don't want to believe that kids (Larry's SIL, maybe MY kids if they pass the new draft) are in such danger over there for Bush's nmade-up stories (lies)...

I just noticed that Bush was coming to my college campus, tickets required. I called his headquarters but all tickets are gone. Eric & I are both disappointed. I'm very interested in what he has to say, although I've been pretty much apolitical in recent decades.

I will guarantee he is biased and using incredible editing. And I feel that all of the points could certainly use support/links to clarify them, which is part of why I wanted to see the napalm links.

But then again, I remember the very, very first thing this administration did when he got into the office (which I believe they only won thanks to 5 people on the supreme court...)

They intimated, they innuendoed, and they spread rumors about $200,000 in damage left by the Clintons. Porn bombs, said Drudge.

They lied. They allowed their people to lie. They allowed a report to be created, spending MORE money to prove the Clintons innocent, and the Bushies to be liars.

That first impression is the one that counts.

Haven't seen the film yet, but I've already made up my mind, and I don't want to be confused with facts.

For the experience. I'm sure many who will be attending (knowing the students, profs and staff at KU) are not supporters of Bush or are even close to being Republicans.

Oh, has anyone read the book by someone on his staff who talks about the first cabinet meeting and it was about invading Iraq? The quote was something along the lines of.. "10 days in and it's all about Iraq."

That book is by Richard Clarke. Haven't read that one yet, but have watched many appearances by Clarke on various news shows. He's only one of a small army of people who've left this administration in disgust and horror.

Just saw an interview with ex-NY Gov. Mario Cuomo on the Tim Russert Show (CNBC). Cuomo made some good observations on the film, specifically, and on why the American people need to dump Bush, in general.

He pointed out that Bush admitted on Russert's show that he (Bush) made a mistake in going to war in Iraq, BUT THAT HE'D DO IT AGAIN IF HE HAD A CHANCE! For this and this alone, he should not be given that chance again.

We watched the new documentary on the Weather Underground tonite. Pat and others of that age group, would be curious to know your feelings about the Weathermen and the SDS.

I surely don't condone violence under any circumstances. But I'm curious to know not how you feel about it now, years later, but rather, what you and your friends thought of the Underground back then in the 70s. Did you approve? Did you think it insane? Did you even really talk about them?

Were the Weathermen a total failure? Or do you feel that the possability of a revolutionary resistance is something that was needed to be kept alive, by Bernadine and the others?

Are they heroes, or egotistical morons? And if you feel differently about them then vs now, is it because you feel differently about their actions, or because you yourself have changed?

Lots of questions, but the film is important and I hope you will all see it. It's on DVD now.
