Cass wants a U.S. Supreme Court that will outlaw abortion and gay marriage. "Do you want to take your children to a National League baseball game for instance and have homosexuals showing affection to one another? I don't want my kids to see that," he said.
Risking God's Wrath

By one measure, conservative Christians comprised 12 percent of the electorate this year -- the same as four years ago. But they see themselves as a crucial piece of the president's political base.

They believe that if their agenda is not implemented quickly -- if their concerns are not addressed in a timely fashion -- God will be angry.

One leading evangelist recently warned, "God's patience runs out."

Dr. James Kennedy delivers sermons at Coral Ridge which are broadcast to three million homes. He said he knows of no timetable for God's wrath, but wants results fast.

He dismissed the concerns of people who worried about the impact of Christian conservatives on the U.S. government.

"Repent," he said with a laugh. "Repent. That's what I'd say."

People who are concerned about the influence of Christianity "have never really surrendered their life to God and submitted themselves to his commandments -- and if they did that they wouldn't have so much concern about some court saying again that it's wrong," he said.

Asked about the millions of Americans who are not Christian, or have a different interpretation of Christianity, Kennedy said with another laugh: "I couldn't care less. It's true."

"I think that the idea that the worst sin that somebody can commit is to offend somebody is ridiculous," he said.

Evangelicals say Kennedy may seem intolerant, but there's no greater love than upholding the will of God. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

I've read that Bush has got Tom Delay to sponsor a bill that makes anyone in the country that votes for a democrat register as a "Tex Offender".
It's scary to see that this whitehouse, which fears Iraq becoming a theocracy, has become one itself.

I like Dr. James Kennedy. He's a good man. His church is a part of the Presbyterian denomination that the Presbyterian church we belong to is a part of. From what I understand they are one of the more liberal denominations & basically don't give a crap about stuff except for loving God. They aren't picky poo about stupid stuff like long hair or how ya dress or rock & roll & don't mind that stuff. They however are aligned with the conservatives on the morals stuff & Dubya etc. I do have to agree with them tho that Dubya being elected was of God. The preacher at church said one Sunday before the election that it's not who we want in there but what God wants & God will allow in there who he wants even if it may not be who we want like say Dubya. Like if Kerry had gotten in there it would've been what God wants. The preacher likes Arlo. So did the last preacher we had. I remember reading somewhere where a preacher said that if Kerry won the election then the end of the world was gonna happen & Jesus would come back but if Dubya won then the end of the world wouldn't happen yet. I don't see gay marriage as a "religious" or "moral" issue myself. This just seems like smokescreen for people with a hateful agenda. Consider the following:

1. No church will recognize a gay marriage anyways, no matter what the law sez, so the existence of same-sex marriage affects nobody's right to practice their religion. Seems this whole issue is about gays simply getting a piece of paper from the government, no?

2. If these folks are so interested in preserving the institution of traditional marriage, where the hell have they been?? With sky-high divorce rates & out-of-wedlock birth rates, the institution of traditional marriage has been a joke for--what, 25 years now? I'm not condemning people who are divorced or who have children out of wedlock, believe me, just making a point. Shouldn't these same people have been calling for the illegality of divorce & out-of-wedlock births all this time?

I just saw a news report where the assmunch from the Family Research Council said that the Supreme Court upholding the Mass gay marriage law was "judicial tryanny" because 3/4 of the people support traditional marriage.

If the Court overturns the states pro-Medical Marijuana laws, which are supported by 3/4 of the public, do you think we'll see these conservative hypocrites on TV claiming judicial tyranny?

No, didn't think so.

These are the same people who believe the Earth was created a few thousand years ago, despite the fossils that are millions of years old.

You can't reason with them. They drank the Kool-aid a LONG time ago.

It is time for a revolution. A bloodless revolution that confronts the way people think about themselves and the world. Its the same old revolution that Woody was fighting, it just seems we lost the thread for abit and got behind. In these times we need more people to end up on the Group W Bench to help in the fight. At least that is how I ended up here!

I agree fully with what you have all said and the need to wake people up about slipping back into the Dark Ages if their not careful and start taking notice of what's happening. Thats why (as posted elsewhere) I'm on a mission to introduce youg people to Woody, Arlo and Alices so they can hear about how it was (the Draft etc.) in a non threatening, and entertaining way!

At the pro-choice march in D.C. last April (1.2 million of us--did ya notice the dearth of news coverage for such a large event?) Wyld and I bought t-shirts from some young members of an artists' co-op. The shirts are black and say "Stop bitching. Start a revolution." Love that shirt! (Though I have to pick and choose where in Dallas I wear it.) Louise, I've got two or three younger people talking about going to see Arlo when he is in Texas next March. UNITED FOR PEACE AND JUSTICE sent out an email today, with information about legal, permitted demonstrations to take place on Inauguration Day. They are supporting TURN YOUR BACK ON BUSH which, if you ask me, is a great way of showing that he doesn't have the "mandate" he claims!
