Intelligent Design is back, this time in Kansas. Debate at the state level. AAAS is bowing out saying they believe in a separation of Science and State. Meanwhile the water level in the Ogalalla Aquifer goes deeper and deeper underground and the cost of pumping that Fossil water out of the ground just gets higher and higher. But we must have water out on them western plains of Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas and Nebraska to allow over fertilization so we can outcompete developing countries for the export of foodstuff's and cotton and the like in a huge grand subsidized agriculture industry. Of course, with out intelligent design, without God presenting humans with this planet to abuse, the great philosophy of this crumbles to dust like so many other fine human conceptual realities.

I used to love driving over that great aquifer. I always thought of that story in the Seeds of Man where them hooples drove down to the pipeline late at night to steal a tankful of gas. I used to drive across those plains Camp Supply, Woodward, Dodge, Hutch Rolla, Elkheart, Guyman, Dalhart,Pampa, Amarillo, Lubbock. THeres a crossroads in Elkheart Ks where the railroad comes up from West Texas to the Northern Plains bringing the gas to run the pumps to pull the water outta the ground. Back in 1943 or so they loaded Germans fresh from Europe into Freight cars down in Houston and hauled them up to this station and put them out onto the tumbleweed covered ground to work them in the harvest of wheat in the surrounding country. There is a pretty good Mexican (good cheese enchiladas and lots of ice tea to wash'm down) resteraunt stands there at that depot today (did last time I was there anyway). You can stand in the parking lot and see a rise in the distance that overlooks the Cimmaron River where the Cheyenne used to encounter the wagons of the Santa Fe cut off and up on the sandstone cliffs above the (dry) river Coranado while in search of cities of gold carved his name in beautiful Spanish script on a site where great oversized lizards roamed so long ago (or is all that just another dream created by the devil to fool me into believing evolution).

I was in Dalhart Tx on Sunday once and in need of a cold Lone Star and inquired at the filling station if there was a place i could find such a beverage. Well, the fellow said not in Dalhart on a Sunday, just wouldn't be right. But if I headed west on the hiway to the civic limits on my right I would find Wimpy's. Off I went in search of Wimpy's, a small building with little darkened windows and a drive up window. i drove up to window, tooted my horn and asked for a six pack to go. The lady said (with a smile and a wonderful Texas drawl), we have no six packs hear but I could sell you six pieces of gum for $2. I said," well that's a bit steep, don't ya think." But I did it, and, to my surprise, I recieved a free complimentary beer with each piece of gum.

That looks like evolutionary capitalism to me!

Hmmm.....if this ol' universe is sooooo complex that it could be nothing else than intelligent design, then what designed the designer? And then, what designed the designer of the designer? And still then, what designed the designer of the designer of the designer? And then........! Infinity mirror logic! Confuses the heck outta me!

I always kinda thought that God created evolution. But I'm not sure that would satisfy either side in the debate.

Satisfies me... and I'm an anthropologist. I've always believed that too.

Or evolution created God...(?) Sounds like the chicken and the egg to me. At what point do we just say, "Whatever," and get back to dancing?

I like the explanation given in Doctor Strange comics a few decades ago. A person practiced in the mystic arts from the 31st century, named Sise-Neg, traveled back in time, collecting the Universe's ambient mystical energies along the way. The further back he went, the more mystical energies he gained until he reached "the beginning of time" where he had acquired so much that, "BANG!" (yep! The Big One!) he became the god Genesis. Not too shabby for a comic book, eh? Actually beats the snot out of most theological explanations! Hmmm....makes me wonder what happens when the 31st century comes around, though. Guess I really don't have to worry too much about that! Do ya think Kansas would also include that as an alternative explanation? Well, it still beats "infinity mirror logic" in my (comic) book!

Anyone remember the brothel scene in "Easy Rider" (I think that was the scene)? There's a small sign on the wall that says something like "If god did not exist, man would have invented him". A sign of the times, it was a wee misogynic, but gets the point across rather succinctly, I think.
