There is a website now up to promote the forthcoming documentary film on Ramblin' Jack Elliott - "The Ballad Of Ramblin' Jack." Jack Elliott is, of course, a seminal figure in the folk music revival of the 50s and 60s, Woody Guthrie's road buddy and Arlo's old friend. On the site you can find listings when and where the film will be screened, an interview with the director, production credits, photographs and the like. You can even download the trailer ("Coming Attraction") for the film - it even opens with a clip of Arlo talking about Ramblin' Jack, sorta putting Jack's career in historical perspective. Daggone it it is not playing anywhere around here in VA. :<( Closest places it is playing to us is in DC some days before Arlos FARMAID show & theres Columbus, OHIO but we can't plan our vacation to Mike sisters around it cuz it is the Fri after FARMAID. In order to go to OHIO that week we'd have to leave the Fri befre the FARMAID show in Northern VA & I can't miss seeing Uncle Arlo to go to Ohio for a movie. Sigh! This movie needs to play all over the country so we can all see it! Hope they put it out on videotape!

NEW YORK (Variety) - Family affairs took on new meaning at a roof-top bash for folk's legendary founding father Ramblin' Jack Elliott, the subject of documentary ``The Ballad of Ramblin' Jack'' helmed by his daughter,Aiyana Elliott.

Several of Elliott's ex-wives and his currently espoused lady love, Jan, all mingled with remarkable fondness on the rooftop of the AMC Empire Theatre.

Folkies and fans gathered under the stars to hear Elliot pluck a few songs and tip his big black cowboy hat to synchronicity and the Gotham night.

``This really is mystical,'' said the guitarist, who taught Bob Dylan his licks. ``I played a G chord and somebody out there blew their car horn in the key of G.''

Among those enjoying the vibe were folk luminaries Odetta and Dave Van Ronk; Woody Guthrie's daughter Nora Guthrie; a beaming Marisa Tomei, and Ethan Hawke.

Saw the Ramblin' Jack movie yesterday (with RegC, Sherry, Ken and Seth) and it was great fun. Honest, funny, moving, a little disturbing at times, but always entertaining. Lots of great archival footage and interviews with Arlo, Pete and others. Catch it if you can!

I don't want to give away any of the film but in one of the interviews Arlo came out with a line that knocked us out of our seats. Maybe Dave can use it in "Thought Provoking Thoughts".

It's sad but they aren't showing it here. SUre hope it comes out on videotape so I can see Arlo in it. I'ts so unfair how moveis like that never get shown here. ROADSIDE PROPHETS was never shown around here either & I can't find it on video around here either. It's so unfair. Do give us all the details of what Arlo said & did in it. 99% of us lives in areas that won't show it. Glad ya'll enjoyed the movei. Can't go to DC to see it as I already have to make a trip near there to go see Arlo in FARMAID.

Right on schedule "The Ballad Of Ramblin' Jack" pulls into the Cineplex Odeon Dupont Circle Five this Friday, 9/15. Finally showed up on their schedule confirming the info from the national schedule posted on the movie's website. This will be the easiest Guthrie-related event I've ever done. It's right on the way to the Dupont Circle Metro stop that I use each day to go between home and work. Will stop by after work on Friday for the show and then continue on home. May have some ice cream at the Ben and Jerry's next door and also browse in the Olsson's Books and Records store right next door to that. Since it's release they've had a poster of a blown-up version of the cover photo from the "Till We Outnumber Them" CD in the center spot of their front display window as well as a display of the Mermaid Ave. CDs. Look at them twice each day as I walk by between the subway and work and sometimes three times if I walk over there at lunch time.
