Apple's iTunes site has added another version of Arlo doing Alice's Restaurant.
Described as "This version of Guthrie's classic song was recorded live in
1967 in Philadelphia and then lost for nearly 40 years before recently being discovered." The single release is titled: The Alice's Restaurant Multi-Colored Rainbow Roach Affair.

I used to have a digital copy of this song, but the drive it was on crashed... hadn't been able to find another copy of it until now. From what I remember, it was taped on Gene Shay's show in Phila.

That's a mighty kewl version of said tune. I really don't know what to make outta his collaboration with "Jimmy Stur". Alro doing Polka? maybe they should call it 'Folka' instead of Polka. Never heard CONO so fast. Then again, I can remember Steve Goodmans original.

Nothing beats the Symphony take tho. Love the horns..

Just checked today's top 100 Album downloads on the Apple iTunes site and at the moment Arlo's "The Alice's Restaurant Multi-Colored Rainbow Roach Affair" is 11th on the list.

that's fantastic! my computer is like something on gilligan's island...held together with hemp and chicken wire... so i couldn't even get the entire list!...but the front page showed 1 - 10...and alice's rainbow is # 11??

Oh, yeah! Rainbow Roach is a must-have. Not your father's or mother's "Alice's Restaurant." They charged us $4.90, but we decided to forget the extra 70 cents, because $4.20 is definitely the correct price.

Yeah for the most popular song under Folk, CONO's has risen to #3 and Dylans 'All along the Watchtower' has plummeted to #6.....

I'd take that as quite the compliment. And for anyone that has doughts about the Folka (polka) version of CONO, it's really differant. Allot of horns at 90 miles an hr..... it's like the symphony ochestra on Ritilan

Just an update: Arlo's "The Alice's Restaurant Multi-Colored Rainbow Roach Affair" is now 13th on the list of today's top 100 Album downloads on the Apple iTunes site.
Listed between U2's How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb in the 12th spot and U2's "The Complete U2" at 14th.
I'd say U2 is in good company

About a week ago I read a funny column online from a newspaper out west about people naming their iPods.

After reading it I sent the author an email telling her I enjoyed it a lot and added that maybe since I have so many Arlo Guthrie songs on my iPod I should call it my Arlo Pod?

She responded with a very nice note that thanked me for writing and added the comment:

"I think Arlo Podrie is a fine name for an iPod. (Side note:
I've said for years that Arlo has the best hair in the music biz. He and
Emmylou Harris)"

Just downloaded Arlo's " The Story of Moses" off the iTunes site and it got me wondering (hoping) that Arlo's telling of the story of Joseph and the coat of many colors will also some day be made available on iTunes.

Thanks, Arlo, for The Story of Moses--what a great surprise! Drove all around town yesterday with the gee-raffs and blowin' sand and brownies, singing about Mary...What fun!

As suggested on the main page Announcements, I wrote the allmusic.com people about misapplication of their reviews on ituness. Wondering if the problem might lie at itunes (maybe an inattentive person there posted the reviews, as it seems allmusic hasn't reviewed the new music yet), I wrote itunes about it. (It can be hard to find a place to "speak" directly to people at itunes, but I used their form for downloading support: http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/download.html--scroll to the bottom). While at allmusic, I also said: "You don't list Arlo Guthrie's continuing work in the 2000s, including "Live In Sydney," "Alice's Restaurant Multi-Colored Rainbow Roach Affair," and "The Story of Moses." Maybe if enough of us walk in, sing a bar, and walk out, they'll pay attention. (?)
