I have a question about an old Arlo song. I heard some lyrics that were about "a plastic Jesus". Does anyone know what the title is and how I could get a cassette or CD? I had a brainstorm to buy one for my husband's birthday and it is coming up fast. Many thanks for your help.

I may be mistaken, but are you referring to this one: http://www.commonplacebook.com/songs/plasticjesus.shtm ?

"I don't care if it rains or freezes
Long as I have my plastic Jesus
Riding on the dashboard of my car... "

I don't know that Arlo ever did this song... but I do (sort of) remember it being played on the radio in NY, once upon a time in the early seventies....

Before he became a pseudo-political interviewer, Don Imus played the song a lot on NY radio in the early 70's to introduce his "Rev. Billy Sol Hargis" character. Guess he's above that sort of thing now, but he is pushing Kinky Friedman for Gov. Of Texas.

Not sure if Arlo ever recorded that one, but it was in the movie Cool Hand Luke. There is also a version by The Flaming Lips which is pretty good.

Oh, my! This second verse was common in Texas in the 50s and early 60s:

I don't care if I go in a ditch,
'long as I have that s_n of a b___h
Ridin' on the dashboard
Of my car.

We were bad.
