I want all three, but i'm a little broke right now. What should i buy first: Washington County, Running Down The Road, or Arlo Guthrie?

This is a good question, I heard that Washington County was really good... but heck, I'm sure they all are! I'd like to know which one to buy first too!
Any seasoned Blunderites out there that can help ?

Why don't you get the album: The Best of Arlo Guthrie. That's what I bought. You get some of the best Arlo songs, like: Alice's Restaurant, the Motorcycle Song, City of New Orleans, etc. If you go to other Arlo websites, you will see a thorough write-up of Arlo's albums and it will give you their ratings. This is an excellent way to get an overview of Arlo's work.

They're all worth owning, and I'm in the same predicament. I think I'll end up drawing straws.

Or should i get the live in sydney? So many choices! They shouldn't put this many albums out on itunes at once. Its gonna make me broke.

I'd have a hard time reccomending as they are all great. If you're wanting "Coming Into LA" that ones on Running Down The Road. Good luck!

the CD " All Over the World " is a nice choice ( see get-stuff ) as it has a lil bit of everything. All studio...


But my best advice. Flip a coin. They all are great recordings, and if your an Arlo fan, you'll most likely end up with them all, anyhow...

It's hard to believe but I sitll have my 25th anniversary collection. Picking a favorite Arlo title, is kinda like choosing a piece of candy. In a candy store

I still have the 25th Anniversary collection too. Unfortunately it's on cassettes. My car only has a cd player so I have been slowly building my CD collection. (The Last of The Brooklyn Cowboys is one of my favorites )

Washington County has always been a special favorite of mine, and includes several songs which Arlo still performs and some mighty good pickin'.....But Live In Sydney is great!

I guess one favorite. ( choosing favorites now ) is the album called ' Arlo '

It's just I listned to this, when I was very young ( 13 ) and the FBI story holds a significant amout of nostalgia for me. I love every track on that album. Always wanted to hear Arlo open with Standing at the Threshold. A tune that will stay in your head all day. ( maybe because it's just mostly chorus. Don't think that song has a bridge...

And 'Wouldn't you believe it, is an all time favorite. (off Arlo ) As I love the accoustic guitar riffs... ( and bass )

I was sorta flabberghasted, yrs. later when I heard and read that album had the worst reviews. ntm: some friends didn't care for it......

but ag talks about politics on that album, and you know that's always a gas

My most listened to favorite is the double live Together-Pete Seeger And Arlo Guthrie. What a piece of magic. I always prefer the raw feel of live material personally. Someone mentioned a greatest hits. Personally I do not recommend compillations. They are OK if you are strictly a HITS kind of listener but it gives you really no feel at all of the artists art. Albums. That is the art. Same as a painting. Imagine looking at a painting compilation. Random brush stroke copies from various works. Naaaaah....

Now I think I need to get More Together Again. I have not heard it but I think it will be right up my alley. I'll have to see if Rising Son has it.

I've decided to put them all on my Christmas list and let my family do the deciding. Now the only problem is waiting until Christmas...

What a hard choice!! ALL of them are great in their own way. I just got all 4 of them (wait till my husband sees the VISA bill!! ) Oh well ... anyway, I really like Washington County -- love to hear Fence Post Blues over and over and over. Sydney is like being at a show and that is VERY appealing!! The Christmas idea sounds good but I don't know if I could wait that long!

...so i'm a fairly seasoned blunderer.....(today with ginger, garlic and a pinch of saffron...but who knows about tomorrow).....anyway, the real story is that there is no cd (album, tape) that you can afford to miss......expensive but true....and i certainly agree with Folkin' A that the Pete Seeger Together recordings are some of the best of the best....

....so using a random method of what do i buy first??...you can work your way through the list and get them all.....or blitz your credit card and listen to great stuff while you figure out your finances....

..so it goes, bein a blunderer....just be grateful adg is thorough and thoughtful about putting out new CD"s......and how many you would then have to face......

...and don't forget the trading post.....the folks there are very accomodating about sending out stuff.....and it's not so difficult to bring a small tape recorder in if the venue allows it (or not, depending on your personality) and sending the tape to an interested trader who will turn it into a cd and there it will be for those who want it.....and those live recordings....nothing quite like 'em....

.....good luck.....just think of the money you'll save on gas 'cause you have good music to listen to at home......

If I could only have one Arlo album it would be Washington County. Peaceful, hangin' around the shanty songs. Mystic Journey is very haunting, you can't get it out of your head. Then I would get Runnin Down the Road. Those are my three suggestions in that order. I hope by now yoo've done yourself a favor and just got everything; life is short, and if you have to make sacrifices...well, don't rob yourself of all the Arlo you can get! A bargain at twice the price!
