thanks for the quick answer. You know he seems like a nice guy, and it not only in it for the money which I commend. I am really not a folk fan, but I somehow like the spiritual quality of Arlo, I took a great drive from NJ today and saw the Church in Great Barrington today. It give me some hope in life. You know Musically i really never listened to arlo, but I love Steve Morse, Frank Zappa and Todd Rungren, however I think Todd's personality is lousy and he is not too charitable. Its funny you may like the music but hate the person interesting huh???

It is funny, but certainly not unusual. There's Dylan, for example. I'm not saying I hate Dylan as a person or anything. I don't know him, for one thing. But he doesn't exactly have a comfy demeanor about him. Or at least he didn't. Seems to be mellowing a bit now.

Arlo's got the personality thing going on in spades. But there's a pretty great catalog of music there, too, once you get into it.

Welcome to the site. Arlo most definately has a wonderful personality. That's one of the things that endears me to him. He's not only a great singer but a great human being...

okay, fans has a great catologue please offer up the best in your opinion of arlo and I will give it a try. Like I said I am not a folk music fan, find it kinda mellow but maybe I am wrong so here is your chance. Thank you!!

To get an idea of what Arlo sounds like at a show Live at Sydney can't be beat. I'd start with Live at Sydney. Then you will know if you would enjoy a show. For more albums Amigo and Last of the Brooklyn Cowboys are really good.

A long time ago, Laura Lee suggested that everyone come up with their five favorite Arlo songs. There were a lot of lists and tremendous variation. One person's favorite is another person's least favorite and vice versa. And it varies according to mood.

Among my favorite albums are Amigo and Outlasting the Blues - both from the 70's and Mystic Journey from the 90's. All the other albums have at least one or two favorites on them, too.

That's me. Everbody's different. Folk is music mellow sounding compared to other forms, but hey, the musicians I've seen live most times, other than Arlo and my own son's band, were the Ramones. I have to admit I retired from the seeing the Ramones live long before they retired and expired. I wasn't really up to it anymore.

thank pat and all!! Well I am going go buy an arlo cd and give it a try!!! Now do you want to see a great band, heres my recommendation PROJECT OBJECT, the have a website. This is some of the former mothers of invention, all extremely talent very talented musicians doing great frank zappa music!!!

Interesting. They sound like a lot of fun. But I'm old and I'm overscheduled. I don't go out to clubs and hear new music much, even if it's old music by new people. The only routine exceptions to that are my son's band and Sarah Lee and Johnny for the moment. And it's even hard to keep up with them. I just find I have to specialize these days.

However, I'm sure I'll bump into Project Object sometime or other. I checked out their site and I see that they and my son's band inhabit very much the same world, at least here in the NE, so at some point, I'm sure I'll get to see them live.

Don't forget, you can always pick up the best of Arlo to get you started. I think you'll really like songs like Gabriel's Mother... and City of NO....and Darkest hour. I bought the CD blind a few weeks ago and haven't stopped playing it since.

Hi Maralyn! Welcome to the group I became an Arlo fan recently after purchasing the Alice's Restaurant DVD and watched it 9,999 times I attended my first Arlo concert this past November and was one of the bestest concerts ever! Like magic! Like totally awesome! I had the pleasure of meeting Arlo after the concert and what a wonderful person he is with a cute personality to match. The stories he tells at this concerts are funny, outrageous, and exhillarating along with his live performance...I plan to attend my second Arlo show this spring and summer up at the church besides it will be my first visit there, I'm looking forward to it After a great experience at my first Arlo show I felt like a high school freshman being initiated without the shaving cream, face makeup or wearing your underclothes over your jeans and shirt....My personal fav Arlo CDs in recommendation to you are Someday, Mystic Journey, self titled Arlo(Live) from 1968 he changed his name to Arlo and the 1974 Arlo Guthrie CD where he revealed his last name LOL!!! Just a little joke...I am still gradually working on my Arlo CD collection slowly but surely!
I am having a great time on this forum so knock yourself out anytime with any personal opinions on anything pertaining to Arlo and his music.

Let me say I was a huge Todd Rundgren fan and this guy for the past few years had really disappointed me when I paid good money to see him. He is an egomanic and rude to his fans. This really turned me off. So that how I wound up here.

I agree wiht you 100% plus......he also has the geatest smile...I ran into Dylan at a Vegas show he did granted the man writes incredible music. but he will never win Mr. Congeniality......
