Rough time at the Carnegie show. Ushers & Security almost threw me out. I am a few years younger than Arlo and am no major threat to those jerks in authoritative positions. I took a few non flash photos from my seat (sitting down and not getting in anyones way). I have poor vision (wear bifocals for close up and distance) so the idiot usher thought I was making a video since I need to use the lcd window to be able to take a photo and wanted to throw me out. I guess you can call me visually handicapped. Three of them stood (I was 3 seats in from the far left, 5th row) and stared at me in a mean and nasty way for the last five songs of the show. I have to say it made me physically ill. Here Arlo is singing "My Peace, my peace is all I've got..." and these THUGS are harrassing me and my pulse is through the roof and my adrenilin is pumping and I'm full of fear. I thought, "if these guys get any more aggressive I will cry out to Arlo for help." I'm glad it didn't come to that, but it was a very upsetting experience. I'm a pacifist and I don't like people who aren't kind to others... Sorry Arlo, but they kind of bummed me out for the rest of the show and I wasn't able to stay connected to you & your family's love for that final part of the show and I went home in bad shape.

Unfortunately, at some venues (like the Carnegie) when they say "no photography" they really mean it. It's very upsetting when the security staff enforces the rules in a heavy handed way. There's a couple of venues I've been to that actually do purse/bag exams before they let you in...it just means that they'll check your purse, but they won't be looking in your coat pocket. It also means that they'll be looking for camera usage. Usually, you can get away with a couple of non-flash photos at the very end of the show...during the encore. Don't hold the camera up to your face...use the LCD screen to line it up, keep the camera close to your body. Don't hold it out in mid-air for everyone to see that LCD screen...they're easy to spot because they glow.
Mostly, if I think a camera is going to be a liability, I leave it home, and enjoy the memories.

I've been to a few of those places that Sue is talking about. It's bad how they do folks but I've heard that Carnagie is one of the worst. I hate how some places search ya.

Concerts at Kings Dominion are the worst. The time we saw Dylan there they had cops searching you on the way in. They made me take my camera & tape recorder to a locker box I had to pay & rent to store them in during the show. Made me mad cuz he did a great version of Woody's Buffalo Skinners & Johnny Cash's Folsom Prison Blues I'd have loved to have had on tape. I was able to when I went back in to sneak the camera in but my pics didn't turn out. Yuck.

The lcd Sue is talking about is why if I ever got another better digital camera, I'd want it to have an optical viewfinder as well as the lcd instead of just an lcd. If a place doesn't like ya taking pics I take them without flash & try not to get caught. Sorry to hear how the Carnagie staff did ya. I've had places to crab at me for taking pics & it kind spoils the mood but I just try to enjoy the rest of the show cuz I don't want to let them get to me. Hopefully the show at the end made the security folks feel the love that Arlo was trying to send out. Good luck next time...

The ushers at Carnegie can be really nasty. They saw me sitting with a camera in my lap once, and made me take the lens off the camera and watched while I put it all away. Then onetime, I was officially asked by the Guthries to photograph a concert there. I had to sign my life away before the show, and that of my first-born son, should I ever have one (I never did), and swear that the pictures were just for the Guthrie's archives, and then they assigned a BODYGUARD to me, who followed me wherever I went (execept the ladies room--he waited outside the door), and I wasn't allowed to go anywhere near the stage. Frustrating, to say the least. I did get one of my favorite Carnegie memories out of the experience, though. I had decided to go upstairs to take some pictures from the balcony, so we went over to the elevator and pushed the UP button. When the door opened, there was Harold Leventhal, who I knew, of course, from sight, and had probably said Hi to a bunch of times, but I had no idea if he knew me. He looked at us, smiled, and said to my Bodyguard, "Make sure she stays out of trouble." I just laughed all the way upstairs! I miss Harold!

I don't take a camera to Carnegie anymore.......

Hey, Bhak, I'll never forget that time you brought the stuffed moose you made me to Carnegie Hall. We (the Moose and I) got photographed for some Japanese magazine, and the ushers were really nice to me. They smiled and everything, and didn't demand that the moose have a ticket to the show! So people, if you want to be treated really well at Carnegie Hall, forget the cameras! Just bring a stuffed moose with you!

Of course, maybe you could put a hidden camera in your moose......

Judy - remember the "unfortunate moose incident" at wolftrap? and sightseeing in DC with the 6-foot stuffed moose? Ahhh....those were the days.

Wow, didn't know all that with a Moose happened at Wolftrap lol. I was probably there & missed it lol. I do have a small stuffed Moose that is wearing jeans & a shirt...

The moose was a hit at wolf trap. it was worth it to see the expression on pete's face as the moose descended from the rafters. lol! wonder if the moose is still on the couch at the church?

i don't recall if there's one on the couch, but there's still one that sits on top my head from time to time!
