It was merely a question off on a tangent. I like tangents. :)

I think tangents have a lot to do with a lot of it. I was reading about the 3 main world isms and their views dealing with the 10 commandments and then on to a lot of other unrelated religions and it seems that if a lot of the tangents were pulled out of the picture we'd realize that most of us have our isms to help us in our trying to achieve the same goal. We just want to know the best, and preferably easiest, way to happiness.

When we were kids every argument could be ended with,"Well, when you die then you'll know for sure"

All the major religions have some form of "the golden rule" as part of thier dogma. If people would adhere to that one, what else would you need?

Wyld, you need to be more careful.

By the way, I think that "the golden rule" should be followed by all people except masochists.

remember this golden rule, it is probably not as relevant today, but

Don't leave your records in the sun
They will warp and they won't be good for anyone
Don't leave your records in the sun
they will get all wavy and they just won't run
they just won't play
they just won't play
they just won't play
they just won't play
they just won't play
they just won't play
they just won't play
they just won't play
(vibrate the table)
no more

To continue PS's quotin' the Liverpudlian Bards:

"You say you got a real solution
Well, you know
We'd all love to see the plan...."

"You say you'll change the Constitution,
Well, you know,
We all want to change your head.
You tell me it's the institution
Well you know,
You'd better free your mind instead.
But if you go carrying pictures of Chairman Mao (or anyone else!)
You ain't going to make it with anyone anyhow..."

more Beatles:
"Think for yourself!"

i was thinkin about what might be good for the country and the world and stuff and I thought

What this country needs is an executive HooDoo VooDoo woman that pulls out the national chicken bones in the national mall and consults the great mystery every evening on the national news (proceeds going to the national trust of course). Then every evening we would all know how the country is fairing as we teeter on the edge of the great abyss.

just a thought!

A "Ouija" board would be a lot easier on the chickens. You'd need two people, though. Maybe appoint a vice-HooDoo VooDoo woman, as well? There's even a glow-in-the-dark Ouija board now, for night time oracle readings!

John Lennon was way ahead of his time with Imagine and still is today.
America is only about 5% of the earth, and its claims of being the greatest ever will be its down fall. Solomon had the greatest kingdom I know of for its said he had no enemies.
I wouldn't mind seeing a New New England on the way to Lennon's dream. I guess all the other States could do the same.
Sometimes I think it was Lennon up above Arlo singing to him when All Over the World and Satelite was written.

You say America claims to be the greatest, the greatest what? The greatest random expansion of man into a large but limited space. I was dreaming of the great contradiction. I assume it was inspired from reading this stuff here. It was those Jefferson quotes I suppose. How Tommy could spout off all that enlightment jizz then head to a backroom and get a little Sally the black girl, his property. How Tommy is held up as an example by both liberals and conservatives while in real life he lived as a landed gentleman and spoke of a communist egalitarian agriculturalism. He was a strong opponent of industrialism in America as well as a proponent for population growth to the west (without industrialism how do you pay for all those people?). I pick on Tommy cause he is easy but he was not alone in his "revolutionary contradictions". I mean look at the puritans, they left Europe in the name of religious freedom and founded New England as the unyielding home of God's singular true beliefs. It is all one huge contradiction.

So I think America should have a holiday called the Feast of the Contradiction. It should be on the Summer solstice. It should begin with the Senate, the whole body of the Senate, fasting for a week before with nothing but an allocation of water, then on the day, right in front of Tommies monument maybe, they get fed a bowl of soup. Not just any soup either. but a soup made of the broth of one chicken and one medium spud, that is it. Not even an onion! Maybe a pinch of salt. Diluted down so that each senator gets one bowl, no bread, not even dry bread. Show them what it is like to live a bit differently, a little more like the norm in the world actually. But, to top off the contradiction, they get a glass, a full glass, of fine red wine. As part of the ceremony, and to honor America's past the serving staff will be composed of waiters dressed as Tommy Jefferson and managed by blacks and Americn Indians. Then we would parade on down to the area between the Washington monument and the capital for the afternoon of cacophony. The whole area will be ringed with podia. Each will have a microphone with randomly arranged speakers throughout the field. At 1 pm sharp, members of various reilgious, philospohical and political persuasions will be randomly assigned to a podium and allowed to spout there various beliefs into the crowd. The speakers blaring in a way that creates the sense of non sensical babel throughout the area. At 5 O'clock, we will have the National cock fight. Why a cock fight. Because it matches the contradiction needed. It has historical meaning as cock fights were common here once. It supplies at one time the thrill of competition and the feeling of revulsion as you warch two animals intent on the death of one another. It provides that American Bubba necking feeling on the highway of repulsion at a wreck but you need to see the details. And, it fits the appropriate time frame. IN a relatively short time the victor can be decided and paraded about in the mall for an hour before finally being sacrificed to create this years national chicken bones. Through a little magical slight of hand (another American tradition) the chicken will appear to be annhilated and the bones of the boiled chicken that went into the soup earlier will be presented to the National Hoo Doo Voo Doo queen. These bones will be used for her broadcasts as mentioned earier for the next year. She can then throw out the bones right there in front of the statue of U S Grant and predict America's future for the next year. At 8pm, all the speakers at the podia will be replaced by bands and we will dance to a cacophony of musical forms (folk, jazz, rock, metal, punk, classical etc) until Midnight.

Well? What do ya think (I say as I make Jon Belushi type faces inspired by Animal House) ?

Well, I wasn't sayin' Tom was perfect. Everybody says and does good & bad stuff. We're all walkin' contradictions, some more extreme than others. But hey! I just love macs & cheese (thanks, Tom!). But what's with all the chickens, PS? I'm still for the Ouija board. It ain't as messy, easily stores on a bookshelf, and is polite enough to say "Good Bye" when the oraclin' is over and done with.

i got nothin against Tom.

I don't know about the chickens, it just seems to work for in my head, the bones of the great national fighting cock are nothin but the bones of a stewing hen, the ultimate contradiction!
