I recieved an interesting recording for Christmas and so I thought I would start a place to discuss such things. John Sebastion and David Grisman released a set of recording last year and my my, it is very good. The do one of my favorite Lovin' Spoonful songs (coconut grove) and along with many others. Another of those new David Grisman releases I heard lately was Vassar Clements Fiddlin the Blues. I drank a few beers with Vassar back in '74 or so! That was a great day of music down on Little River there near Norml OK. (I actually think Toby Kieth bought that land where those outdoor festivals happened way back then). But Vassar can still get down and he has a lot of new recent recordings (I got a recent Hillbilly Jazz recording as well).

I'm not so sure. I think I saw him at a 7-11 with Elvis just last week.......

I didn't know he died or at least forgot. He was a hell of a fiddler!

The other recent release I heard was that Flying Burrito Brothers at the Avalon in 1969. The recording quality has rough moments but the sound they created was pretty darn good (if you like that kind of thing).

THere is one of those compilation / tribute CD's of Roky songs called Eye of the Pyramid. It is really good! It has bunch of bands including Poi Dog Pondering, Bong Water and Doug Sahm and Son doing Roky songs. I know he is a bit fruity but I have an original copy of the first Thirteenth Floor Elevators so I have been fruity with him for some time now.

not all that i wanted to yet but oh well...

Dave (Dawg) and Vasser (Clamp) were so nick named by "Spud" as "Old and in the Way"....the Jerry Garcia blugrass project that took a pilgrimage to Kentucky to meet up with Bill Munroe in 1973....the whole affair miraculously recorded by Augustus Owsley Stanley and available in it's entirety thru Dead.net. Some of the finest fiddle and banjo jams including with "Mule" (John Kahn) and <Panama> "Red" (Peter Rowan). I just been down to Kentucky this past fall, their famous for all sorts of grass these days, ...not just blue. We inadvertently collided with some sort of "harvest festival". Old and In the Way would have loved it. I have this old Vassar album, where he he sings "Prove to the world you can walk on water, and some fool will buy your boat".

That sounds like some neat music. We were in KY in the fall too. Got o see Loretta Lynns homeplace. Lotsa good vibes there...
