I did not find the Harmonica that hard to learn. I mainly picked it up when I used to travel a lot and wanted to have a small portable instrument to play when I was bored. It got cumbersome carrying my guitar, my tool bag, briefcase and computer bag around all the time. So the harmonica worked out great.

Cheryl: what's a "canjo".

I played every day for 27 years now with my "fans",....the blunderful residents of our state hospital.(don't be fooled...these folks are "troubled". the real crazy people are on the outside, ....concentrated on Wall Street and in Washington,...now those folks have lost touch with reality.....my folks just can't function in society.....a big difference).
Easiest big suggestion,aka most frequent mistake: never strum from the elbow, always the wrist....you get speed, technique......and your elbow wont wear out. 2nd: always place your fingers directly behind the fretts. You'd be surprised the number of folks who don't and wonder why their sound is not clear.

I dunno. I got the way when you start out blowing...(where the harmonica is the same key that you are playing)...I have issues with the way where you start out sucking and the base note on the harmonica is not the key you're playing in?

Another thing I learned is not to drink beer before playing the harmonica. Tends to make me spitty. It’s kind of embarrassing when playing before others and you have spit dripping out the harmonica. And slapping the harmonica on your hand before and after playing only makes your hand wet..

There is no danger that I'll be drinking beer while doing anything else. Maybe drinking something else..............I'll have to think about it.

I dunno...I'm pretty sure the first time I played harmonica in front of people I dipped it in beer...

Maybe you could put a towel on your hand before you slap the hormonica against it to keep your hand dry. For the spitty thing, you're on your own.

That is so cool you got a piano. They are fun. I took lessons off & on from 1st thru 10th grades. I mostly play by ear now & chuck the notes. So much easier that way...

well the spitty thing happens with the harmonica, el libra... it's not so hard to learn but to play well that takes alot of practice... but like Goofus and EPR said you can carry it everywhere and play anytime.....kinda.... it's alot of fun...

It sure doesn't hurt to soak the harmonicas in a little Simple Green cleaner and water every now and then, to keep the bacteria level down! Just make sure they have a chance to dry well.

My dad plays harmonica by ear. He's pretty good too. And he'll be 87 or 88 this yr...

I can play harmonica with my nose (keeps other people from wanting to borrow it) but I never tried it with my ear!

Off we go to music land. Which was the first song I learned on the Piano. Training fingers, hand and eye.
Instead of the bs we all my have been sold at some point in time.
