Let's talk MISERY!

Some excerpts from Bill Moyers' journal:

Working Americans, and that's most people, are experiencing the "big squeeze." In fact, they're trying to survive one of the most profound social and economic changes in our history. The middle class is disappearing, facing a decline in standards of living.

As wages stagnate, prices are soaring. Economists call this pain the "misery index." It's a combination of the unemployment and inflation rates, and it's what politicians have in mind when they ask, "Are you better off than you were four years ago?" Well, the misery index is the highest it's been since George Bush's father became president, seventeen years ago.

When it comes to feeling the misery index, however, you don't go to the economists or the politicians. You go to where regular people live. And that's what we have been doing on this broadcast for months now. We've seen how the mortgage crisis has devastated neighborhoods in Cleveland, how workers in Los Angeles are scrambling for a living wage, and how gas and food prices are choking the ability of food pantries to stave off hunger here in metropolitan New York.

This year oil hit a record high - $147 a barrel when last year, it was less than half that - around $68. A loaf of bread is up 14% from last year, a dozen eggs is up 33%, and pizza makers have seen the cost of their cheese soar from $1.30 to $1.76. Flour used to make the dough has tripled in price. As these prices soar, the value of homes is sinking. One in three home buyers since 2003 now owe more than their property's estimated worth. Not only has home equity plummeted, so has the value of other holdings, like stocks and bonds and pensions, the investments families count on as a cushion during hard times.

So America's middle class, our "fearful families" as some people call them, is taking it on the chin.

Ahhh, Cheryl. One of these days you are gunna figure out that you have been hoodwinked. The far right, Bush, Cheney and now McCain and that lady from Monty Python buy votes by touting values that appeal to devout Christians and social conservatives. Government has become way too much about practically meaningless social issues, and far less about governing. Government should be about being the custodians of our common resourses(monetary and otherwise), the defense of our county(defense, not offense), law enforcement, etc.
The far right buys your vote and support with lies. They are making you, me and many others poorer all the time. The middle class is fading away, and when you vote for them, you help them to drive nails in our coffins.
They make you feel good about voting for them, because they wave the flag and SAY the love Jesus, all the while robbing you blind.
They make "liberal" a dirty word. And anyone that is not a conservative is labled a liberal. That insults we moderates. They have changed the definition of conservative to garner votes. Conservatism once meant fiscal conservatism, it now means social conservatism. The "liberal" Bill Clinton left George Bush a surplus, and the "conservative" George Bush converted that into the biggest deficits in history. And, he stuck the vanishing middle class with the bill. The rich were given unprecedented tax breaks in a time of war leaving us and our children stuck with the bill. They are good at fooling people into thinking that they are voting in their own best intrests, but they are voting in the best intrests of the special intrests. The fool people into feeling good about voting for them for espousing the religious dogma they they do, and then they rob the collection plate. Don't be fooled again.
Our financial and military resourses have been spread way to thin by incompetent people with an agenda, but without a plan(or a clue).
In short, the terrorists ARE winning. The misguided folly of the Iraq war has recruited thousands of new terrorists that have spead to scores more countries.
The once somewhat secular Iraq is prey to more extreme fundamentlism. We are LESS safe and secure because of the actions of a brain dead cowboy that just happens to thump the bible. Remember the Roman Empire? Spread too thin stand. Remember the Soviet Union? We disolved them by bankrupting them, just like the terrorists are doing to us NOW. Bush and Cheny as well as McSame are too stupid to see this.

McCain's camp is on record in saying" this election is not about issues, it's about personalities". As insulting as that is to thinking people, it is sadly a true statement regarding many voters in this country. The dumbing down of America continues even as it's poster child is a lame duck president.

So, in his wisdom to put "Country First", McCain who knows he is behind, thinks he needs to get some female votes, some core base conservative votes and tells his people" Go out and find me a running mate with tits, guns and one that's pro-life".
Look what he found. And this guy has the balls to talk about "judgement"?
Maybe he really does wish to put country first. His choice may suggest some Freudian throwing in of the towel so that Obama will have an easier time of winning the election.

Ok, who got me started!!!!!????!?!????????

I didn't watch the Repulican convention. Boring. I only saw 2 mins of it & that's cuz we're at my folks house & my mom had that stuff on. I didn't watch the Democratic one either. I did see some of the Libertarian one & theirs was more interesting to me for some reason...

It was more interesting because they actually spoke about issues rather than just praising God and waving the flag.....

Will the American people really vote for four more years of hardship?

Will they really choose to subject themselves to more misery?

Have they learned anything from past eight years???

I hope we don't wake up the day after the election to another headline:

How Can ____ Million People Be So Dumb?

:?:
