The greatest gypsy - jazz player of his time has its roots in Belgium . Look how he is playing the fretboard with only 2 fingers . After a tragic accident ( a fire in his wagon ) he lost 2 of his fingers . Prepair for a great guitarplayer :

pretty good fiddle player as well! here he plays to a little clip that makes you understand Woody's fascination with the Island of Stromboli!

and everybody loves a good uke
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8fQePz4FcE

remember that old beat up guitar song

didn't look like too much
just a Roy Smeck stage deluxe
but a lady never faired as well
who'd traveled through so much

picked up the name of Angel
In an old New Orleans bar
where a drunken poet carved one
on top of that guitar

and old Babe he sure did mark her
playin' songs right from the heart
seems everyone who used her
scared that old beat up guitar

Now who wrote that song?

I really love Great Big Sea...I remember going to a folk festival somewhere in MD..they were playing, and Arlo was playing. We later hired them as closers for our local town festival...and they were a huge hit. Good mix of traditional Irish and Newfoundland sea chanteys and folk songs! These guys are REALLY popular in Canada.

It's amazing that you posted Great Big Sea, Sue, I was just listening to them performing the "Mermaid Song" yesterday......as time goes by I believe in coincidences less and less:

Here's another one from GBS...that's five thousand kids in the audience singing along with them...and that's how hugely popular they are.
