Yet another example of complete incompetence and then a quick reversal... Maybe the theme song for this administration should be "Oops, I Did It Again". This is getting old real fast. Frankly, this is just sickening that the CIC would even think of such a thing. He keeps this shit up, and I wonder what kind of military support this country will have should a situation arise where we need it.

Quote:
On March 12, CNN reported online that Veterans Affairs Secretary and retired Gen. Eric Shinseki had confirmed that the Obama administration was considering a controversial plan to make veterans pay for service-related injuries with their private insurance, which assumes they have it.

The plan was to be incorporated into the 2010 budget. On March 18, the Obama administration reversed course on the plan.

Thankfully, Congress had let the administration know that any such legislation proposed by the Obama administration would be dead on arrival.

Although correctly rejected, the plan proposed by the Obama administration begs two greater questions:

1. There is no citizen of this great nation who deserves government-paid health care more than an injured veteran, whether his injury is combat-related or training-related. Government-provided health care for injured veterans must be honored.

By proposing this plan, the Obama administration has sent a deleterious message to our active and reserve military, many of whom have persevered through multiple deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.

What was the administration thinking to even contemplate such a plan?

2. President Obama has proposed national health care, including a $635 billion "down payment," yet simultaneously proposed compelling injured veterans to use private insurance, assuming they have it, for service-related injuries.

Abject hypocrisy. What was the administration thinking?

Our commander in chief and most of his administration are non-veterans. Do they truly understand and support the grassroots military? If yes, their judgment is skewed.

Funny how things remain relevant...

Quote:
And there wasn't any big parades
For those that made it back
They flew them in at midnight
And unloaded all the sacks
And the living were left walking down
A long and lonely road
Because nobody seemed to care back then
When a soldier made it home

Of course, you'd think that at the very least our Commander In Chief would care... The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Obama is still running for office. Habituated behavior I think because most of his career has been dedicated to that and it's what he knows. As we said during the election, campaigning and governing are distinct.

Still, that move seems more than a little tone deaf. Note that it took less than a week for the media moguls to shift the topic from the unbelievable malfeasance in the financial district to the talking points of how the outrage was wrong-headed. And now they are pillorying the critics. This is precisely how the Obama campaign was run: semiotic kitsch sells.

That said, if you are the Dave Downin that worked for the Naval Surface crowd, you know the Beltway (Quiz: Why does everyone at Carderock look at their feet when they walk away from the cafeteria?) well enough to know what it takes to get anything done in that echo chamber.

My tin-foil hat paranoia is the bailouts constituted a very small group of very wealthy people consolidating control.

As the folks in the black mansion outside the park sang:

Who are the people that really run this land?

Considering a plan ain't the same thing as using it.But it's a nice straw for the Limbaugh crowd to grasp at. My understanding, although somewhat limited at this time is that the Obama budget increased care for vets to the largest amount in history.
Of course the best way to care for vets is not to create them in the first place by sending places we never belonged.

Yep, one and the same... Although when I first came to Carderock it was better known as the David Taylor Model Basin or the Carderock Country Club. And it's not just walking away from the cafeteria, but towards it as well or pretty much ANY sidewalk on base. When I leave work today, I will likely be looking down as well, and it's not due to shame for anyone wondering! So I can only assume that you have worked here as well??? Do I know you?

I'll assume it's so you don't trip on any submarines patroling below the cafeteria? Them periscopes have been known to clock unsuspecting unattentive guys right in the family jewels.

Larry, I don't really think it's grasping at straws, and was the plan not The One's to begin with? Likely the only reason he backtracked was because Congress told him that it would be DOA should it make it that far (and someone probably told him it would be political suicide). Frankly, the state of veteran's affairs in this country is pretty disgusting to begin with and something really needs to be done. Asking them to use their own private insurance - if they have it is revolting (as I'm sure many of you on here have seen the movie SICKO would understand).

And it's easy to say the best way to care for them is not create them - unfortunantly that logic is severely flawed as it's already a little late for that and has been for MANY years. Hindsight is always 20/20, unfortunantly it does little good until someone invents a time machine, and when that happens we'll be dealing with a whole other set of circumstances and concerns such as paradoxes and the like.

Thank you for playing... Nice try - but guess again. Think up, not down.

Let's see what happens. I'm gunna assume that Obama will do more for vets than Bush did.The guy has got a full plate and walked into the job following a complete incompetant that f**ked everything up almost as well as it could be f**ked up.

Up not down? You guys got upsidedown submarines patroling the ceiling with periscopes sticking down? I never dreamed we had weapons like that!

Oh, and on the hindsight thing. Of course we can't change things now, but we CAN learn. Hindsight can lead to good foresight.

A valiant effort, eh?! Up not down, and north (as in the great white kind) not south. At one point, dogs were hired to contain the problem. Now someone fetch me a Molsen, as I grow tired of the blame it on the past rhetoric!!!

I'm with Larry on this one. Bush and his ilk care more about soldiers and fetuses than they do about veterans and children. I'll cast my lot with the guys with (D) or (I) next to their names rather than the circus elephant-followers.

My son-in-law spent almost a year in Sadr City in 2004. because of the great concern and planning of dubya and his ilk, we were shipping used donated police vests to the guys over there to help uparmor their HumVees. The list goes on.
I agree Dave, one should not live in the past, but one should never forget it's lessons either. Bush(Rove) talked a much better game than he played.

Let us review...

1) Up not down
2) North eh, not south

and your third and final clue...

3) The back half, not the front

And just because I'm feeling generous...

4) Green, not brown
