Arlo was terrific. He did a very funny comic bit with Garrison Keillor, and with the Burns Sisters, sang five or six songs from his current tour. Did anyone else hear it or better yet, did anyone tape it? I wish I had been able to tape it, because it's a keeper.

I listened to the whole thing and it was quite good -- he did "Evangelina" and "My Old Friend," then "Alabama Bound," the "prayer" song, "St. James Infirmary," and the show ended with "So Long it's been good to know you." The funny bit with Arlo as "George W." Guthrie, wealthy Republican son of Woody, was pretty entertaining.

Thanks for the info. I missed it cuz I had no idea he was on there. I never listen to NPR unless I am on an out of town trip & happen to come across an NPR station playing folk music. Around here our NPR station plays too much classical music & that's not my bag. I'll have to check it out on the site. If this is the same show I'm thinking of I've heard it while flipping dials before & the dude tells folksy stories about stuff going on in some small town he is in...

I'm with Wyldflower on this one. My local NPR station was doing fundraising, and they played an old show from the archives instead of the Arlo show. I e-mailed the station, and they said I would have to wait until the Arlo show got rerun later this year, but they couldn't tell me when that would be. Well, no donation from me!

Cheryl H., not surprised you never listen to NPR. It's kind of like the liberal antithesis to the Fox Network on tv. Best programs on there are "Car Talk" every Sat. morning and "Alternative Radio" on Mon. nite.

PHC has just archived the show online. If you have a flash player you can listen to it in segments. The Guthrie Center posted a link to the show on Facebook but I didn't swipe the link.

It was great! Been a while since I heard a Norwegian accent.

The Prairie Home Companion show was terrific! Jim and I really enjoyed listening to it. He heard a couple of songs he'd never heard Arlo sing before.

I did record the show on my Edirol...it came out okay. It will still be better if you listen to it on NPR's site where it's archived. They don't have faint sounds of me preparing dinner in the background.


Locally on NPR we have Thistle and Shamrock, Fiona Richie's Celtic music program that I enjoy on Sundays. Great stuff!

I listen to "Prairie Home Companion" every week and it
was such a surprise to find out Arlo was on. It was
like meeting an old friend you hadn't seen in way too long.
I really enjoyed the old songs. I can't remember the
name of the one that starts with "Good Morning, Mr.
Railroad Man". If anyone can remember the title, please
post it here. I LOVED the back up band and "The
Burn Sisters". But what really floated my boat was the
final number, "The Hymn". What a perfect song for these
times. I feel if I listened to it every day for the rest of my life,
everything would be okay. Does anyone know if the lyrics
are posted anywhere? Has he recorded it? Is he going to
record it? Is there going to be a record (uh-oh, I'm dated)
from the "Lost World Tour"? Any help would be greatly
appreciated! P.S. - His part in the "Lives of the Cowboys"
skit was great!!!

it was a perfect weekend. Saw The Boss up in Hartford on Friday night, and listened to The Folkslinger on PHC while driving home Saturday night. The most interesting thing, is that we were just passing by Waterbury about the start time of the show... so 'almost live and in person'!

The reason I don't listen to NPR isn't cuz they are liberal or their politics. It's cuz they play mostly classical music & it's not my bag. I do think it's a good channel for those who like classical music tho...

A chain of Pastures of Plenty golf courses? A line of luggage called Hard Travelin'? Woody, the musical?......you crack me up Arlo! Free thinker indeed.....!!!

That was a great show. I admit I enjoyed the vignette most of all. I like to listen to Arlo talk and crack wise in that dry froggy New England accent.

And I'll bet Annie isn't the only one glad to be home. Sounds like it's been a great tour so far! The concert captures have been manna from heaven for my jammin' habits.

I've a soft spot for "Alabama Bound", of course, but it is a little strange to hear it pronounced "Alabama" as we would say it hear instead of "Alabamy" as it has been pronounced elsewhere in song for a long time. I wonder if that is a deliberate choice by the 'slinger.
