When my son went through the hazing and it was obvious the school officials were impotent, I told him to grab the nearest kid by the collar and pop him hard in the nose. My wife objected that he would be suspended at school. He did and he was. I took the call, apologized to the prinicpal, assured her he would be disciplined, and once out of sight, took him to lunch to celebrate. The problems stopped. In this case, respect of his peers was more important than a three day suspension at home and over time, that has been shown to be a very good trade off.

We can't always make our desires for global behaviors scale to the local circumstance. If he wanted to get through high school intact, he had to show he was willing to take the punishment. Perhaps this is the thinking of the murderers of the abortion doctors as well except that they are trading on an afterlife instead of this one. That is why I say look at the problem of hell and be sure you believe there is one because murder of a person for doing what they do legally is considered a crime regardless of whether they do it on a battlefield or in a church foyer.

For the others in this, that is also why Bush and Cheney got documented legal opinions for what we would consider heinous acts. So in the end, we are all appealing to higher authorities for our own discretions and non-proportional indiscretions. In this case, disrespect of the voters for those opinions lost their party the White House just as insisting on gay rights to marriage cost the other party the White House in 2004.

Hint: Timing is everything.

Sorry they're having bully troubles. I would definitely let the school know about that kid. If not in school, then file a report with the police. These kinds of statements cannot be ignored.

1. You cannot legislate morality. If you ban legal abortions, the only thing that will happen is more women will die in butcher backrooms. Only the rich will be able to send their women or child women to countries where it it's legal.
2. So if #1 is killing more already viable lives, how can any pro-lifers be for the death penalty, wars, etc.?
3. What ever happened to zero population growth? Only reproduce yourselves (2 mates = 2 or less offspring)? Child of the 60's/70's.
I'm against abortion (totally against after 3 months unless mother's life at stake/fetus not viable), but I haven't walked in these women's shoes.
It's up to God to judge, certainly not me.
Please, keep it legal in America. Or adopt an older, mulato child with spinal bifida or high retardation. Put your love where your beliefs/or, if you wish, politics are.

I just read your (above) post and wanted to say that I'm in agreement with you and most everybody here on the issues and the paradoxes which arise from this topic. Zap makes an excellent point concerning the global ramifications. But on the most fundamental and personal level, I believe it boils down to each individual woman's choice. I don't care for the label pro-life because it implies that I and others are anti-life, and this just isn't the case. Because I am so strongly in favor of "free-choice" or a woman's freedom to choose, I, as a male often feel as though I shouldn't even be talking about the issue other than to support a woman's freedom to choose. But then as Zap wrote, global over-population is as big a challenge to our survival as global warming or nuclear proliferation......Anyway, glad you're here to join and enhance the discussion ......Peace, Kevin

If you look at the population counter on their site, you'll notice that it increases by about three people every second! Pretty scary! In my opinion, that's probably the biggest issue the world is facing. None of the other big problems are going to go away until we get a handle on that but you never hear much about it from politicians/world leaders, the media or people in general. But, in 1938, they did believe that Martians were landing in Grover's Mill, New Jersey (there's that state, again!). Hmmmm ...... maybe if we could convince the world that overpopulating the planet was a Martian plot to destroy the Earth .......! Where's the Mercury Theatre when you need 'em?

Funny, "Cicely, Alaska" was about an hour's drive from me when I was a Seattlite, just over the mountain pass in Roslyn, WA. Loved that show, have the nightshirt Tshirt (got at second-hand store - I acknowledge being a 2nd hand store junkie.)
Most my friends from the 60's/70's who agreed with zero pop.growth
now have 3 or more children. Then add the 3rd world Catholics (S.America, et.al.) who believe the Pope in no birth control, let alone choice. Lotsa people's life with no medical care, enough food, little education, and such poverty as I'll never have to experience. Sorry to ramble on.

Our kiddos have always had all of the above, and snuggly fur all over. (No, Larry, no nuke facilities nearby; I think they're all located near those people who have 6, 8, etc.)

I LIKE the idea of a spay/neuter program, along with a law that you adopt one for every one you have. (Not really; setting up children to be unwanted/adopted would be horrible. But if I were queen of the world ...)

Heck, Larry! There's only 2000 people in this town. We're lucky we have electricity! There's a lot of Republicans in town though, so it'd be a good place for wind power!
