I had a visit with Dee last night. After hitting a few bumps in the road, she once again continues to improve.With any luck, she MAY be able to go home early next week. At least that is what we ar hoping for.
I got the chance to read some of the cards sent to Dee. Agnes, you're nuts! But, that's why we like and understand you.
Keep the vibes flowing.

First, I want to thank all of you again for the cards, emails, blundervibes, good wishes etc. that you've sent my way. I have my laptop here in the hospital, and I check and respond to email whenever I have someone here to help me (I don't have my voice software working on the laptop yet).

Second, here is the update:

The ~ good news!! ~ the pneumonia is much improved. I've been off the vent during the day for the last 5 days and, last night, I was off all night. We are now weaning me from the oxygen. Yes, things are much improved.

The next hurdle is to reach the point where I can (preferably safely) eat again -- without aspirating. I didn't pass the swallowing test this morning. As I understand it, there are secretions that are blocking tiny particles of food from being swallowed, so I sometimes end up inhaling it. Harvey, my pulmonologist, is going to bronc me again tomorrow, and he said he will get me eating again. But some of the other "experts" are not as optimistic.

As far as I am concerned, the ability to eat normally is critical to my quality of life. I have explored the alternatives, and none of them would allow me to leave the place where I live for more than a couple of hours - and forget about ever going on another overnight again. That is not a life I choose to lead, so please keep those thoughts, prayers, blundervibes, candles, crossed fingers etc. coming strong for a few more days.

Looks like I'm going to be here at least through Monday.
