In addition to what Cheryl just wrote, and I apologize to anyone who might be offended by my lack of political correctness, Sarah Palin is an ignorant, hypocritical twit......she appeals to the worst in people, the people who don't have a clue what the term "critical thinking" means. Her stint as the republican VP candidate was a lesson in mob mentality and behavior. Don't underestimate sociopaths like Sarah and Todd, they can be extremely dangerous, especially in times of economic hardship and disaster......like Germany in the 20's and 30's......

Don't make that mistake, Kevin. To the other team, that love fest in front of the faux greek columns looked like 'mob mentality' too complete with Oprah crying on camera. Those Black Panthers standing in front of that polling place, those films of young black kids dressed in military uniforms chanting Obama's name, the way the judiciary glossed over it, that is a lot more like the Reich than anything Palin has said or done.

She is not a twit. She is George Wallace. You may be too young to remember, but they had to shoot him to stop him because otherwise he was going to be the Kingmaker in 1972 even as he was the avatar in 1968.

Every time the press and we go after her, we give her more power to determine outcomes. She doesn't have to have a majority. She only has to have enough to keep anyone else from having one. And she is just the bait.

The attention to these political dwarves is dumb in the face of what we saw happen in Wall Street and since then. If the raw power grab didn't come across, you were distracted by the snark.

I get your point Len, but there was a huge difference between the Democratic and Republican camps. Obama exuded intellectualism to supplement his hope/change vision. I really felt sorry for McCain, I think his handlers threw Palin at him and neither he nor the Republican party leaders quite knew what to do with her. They tried to keep her isolated and silent but that could only go on for so long. Time after time she revealed her complete ignorance on every topic placed before her, even knowledge about the state she governed. "Drill baby Drill" was her mantra in the face of all scientific evidence to the contrary. The Republicans knew they were in trouble because of GW's unimaginable incompetence, and in their desperation gambled on Rove's "divide and conquer" strategy that got Bush in and kept him in. It didn't work because of the catastrophic economic events......even fundamentalist bible thumpers care more about their bank accounts than Jesus. "The Times they are a'changin'", a new wind of environmental thinking emerged desite and because of Bush, et al's rejection of science, and Obama ran with it; republicans were left in the dust chanting "Drill baby drill"......and Sarah didn't know that Africa was a continent

George Carlin did have an incredible sense of objectivity. I went to see him about ten years ago at FSU, and after talking about Disney World and unrestrained development he said that there was "nothing wrong with Florida that a healthy Cat 5 hurricane couldn't fix". He berated environmentalists who use language like "save the planet" or "save Mother Earth".......we can destroy ourselves, even all life forms, but the planet will be fine...... ......back to the other thread, I was thinking about Arlo, celery time, the un-neutron bomb, stuff like that......and it hit me how necessary Palins and Cheneys and Bushs' are: they are "The Dark" that allows our "Light" to exist and have meaning......

SP had another interview today to defend that she is not quitting.

She is resigning in mid-term. That is quitting. She may have her reasons, but it is the same.

@MG: I grew up simultaneously and in the same place through the Space Race and the Bigot Wars. The ironic thing was George Corley Wallace did a lot to drag Alabama into the 20th century because he was a politician to his bone. For all the public statements he made that infuriated the world, privately he was pushing desegregation, building roads, and creating a state university system that was more distributed and more equal. It was a lesson in looking past the view of the camera to what is actually accomplished. Don't compare him to Hitler (everyone tries that one). I actually met the man twice and his predecessors and the guys who succeeded him. The state is screwed up in very many ways still but he is not the cause.

Palin falls closer to Wallace than anyone wants to admit. She likely has done a lot to clear up some corruption in Alaska which all observers say is rampant. She should have never accepted McCain's invitation but who knows. As I said, I don't think the Republicans intended to win but they didn't see the blow out coming.

All I am trying to say is don't take the distractions too seriously. She is part of the fabric of world events that seen without too much prejudice reveal the darker side in which these folks are stage players but the real sources of our distress are still behind the curtain. The recent meltdown opened them a tiny bit to reveal the culprits, but for every Madoff going to prison, a thousand are walking away not only unconvicted but with our money, our children's money, and our grandchildren's money courtesy of the unregulated billions tossed at them the same way millions in untraceable currency was tossed into Iraq only to be stolen by little players who realized they could get away with it.

Meanwhile the media forced celebritisms to the front while the bad guys rode off to rob another day. And so it goes.

That's what I've been trying to say, Larry. Whatever else is going on with Palin, ever growing numbers of people loathe the mainstream media and believe the web is the last place to get the facts. That creates a reinforcing carrier which amplifies her status on the claims of mistreatment. All the left has to do is keep doing what they've been doing and her case will be made.

The unknown is will a strong unrelated but perceived coupling take place. For example, the wall-to-wall coverage of MJ has disgusted some number of people and that tends to reinforce the negative view of the media. This and Palin should not be related but that is how a hidden coupler works. The mistrust and disgust with the media feeds the perception that someone accusing them of unwarranted assaults might have a case. That is why what Lettermen did was stupid beyond belief. It won't matter if his apologies are accepted, it was 'a mistake' or any spin one tries to put on it. A skunk's defense is natural and organic. It still stinks.

Perception is a field mouse looking at the telephone and power cables. From the point of view of the mouse, those cables are hawk perches and the two-legged animals that put those cables and towers in place are the allies of the hawks. If the field mice could vote, the first guys out of office would be line men.
