Vote for Sarah: She's got Gumption and possibly some political attributes but those are being suppressed by the media!

Gumption is too much like Spunk, which reminds me of this exchange between Lou Grant and the Mary Tyler Moore character from an early sitcom.

Lou: You know what? You’ve got spunk.
Mary: Well, yes…
Lou: I hate spunk

I'm not so sure she is really going away. In fact, we may actually see and hear even more from her.

Her own television talk show on FOX? A radio show?

:?:

I don't want her to go away. I want her to evolve.

Our diversity is not only our heritage, it is the engine of evolution by which we adapt. Trying to eliminate The Other is why we suffer. When we find The Other in us, we change, we grow, we discover our original face and then we learn what it truly is to love. Even anger is better than dismissing someone who holds beliefs other than our own because in that dismissal, we refuse to see totality, that of which we are part and whole. To destroy love is to blind God.

While I am getting in touch with my inner other so that i can evolve, I must ask myself the obvious, which is, how is it that there is even still conversation around getting a political newbie into the highest office of the country?

I don't think she can evolve unless she goes away. 40 days in the desert, something like that, to start. It'll be good for her.

We did it with Obama so it does happen.

That's not the point. The point is to react to her such that should she be in any way influential, she evolves positively. The kinds of things said and done to her in the press will empower her in a way that she will have influence anyway, but it will be for the wrong reasons. It's a bit like MJ: couple influence and pain and it guarantees what was otherwise undetermined.

Call it naive, but I've wondered what it is with the peace and love folk that when they encounter someone like her, they let go of the good work and go right to the pick axes. I don't get it.

Let her live, learn and grow, but don't allow her to create or affect public policy based on what we have heard from her already. I think that view is consistant with the peace and love folks sense of peace and love. This is why we vote.

I don't think you want to start comparing the political and educational credentials of Obama with Sarah Palin, not to mention the intellectual capacity. I am already feeling insulted enough that Hilliary isn't good enough for the high office, but Sarah Palin is.

We are (for the most part) having a political discussion. This happens here. People with differing opinions express them without judgment.
The right thing to do is put it to a vote and not have her political future decided in the media. They are, afterall, about ratings and not what might be best for the country.

She resigned. We really don't have any more than what she said. Let that be enough until we know more. She might surprise us. She might not. But after watching what was done to Hillary Clinton, I'm not sanguine about the way any of these parties go about redefining their opponents without first letting them define themselves.

Political discussions are healthy. Telling her to 'go away', demonizing with photos, debating her intellect, these are not political discussions. They are distractions and even that's not all bad, but if that is all there is, that's bad. It feels good just like meth and crack because that is what those moves are: it's just Rush with a pony tail.

I don't worry about her intellect. It isn't the sine qua non of leadership. I worry about OUR devolution by reaction into the same mean spirited one trick pony politics that made the last eight years not only hard to endure but possible. I can disagree with her without comparison or ridicule. She has her friends and followers and everytime we go on the attack without provocation, they become more strongly attached.

Yes, we vote. So what? Not that it isn't the right thing and important, but that elections come down to small numbers too often and Karl Rove showed the power of multiplication by division. Our rampant attachment to our own emotional endorphin addiction can be the very reason that others who might have taken a rational look at what we have to say decide to throw the baby into the bay because of the messenger.

She isn't going away and she might lose ground by her own hand unless certain self-abusive types decide to get their yuks the same way the yahoos who sold urinal cakes with Hillary Clinton's photos on them do it again. There is a rising backlash against that and if it couples to failures in economic policy, she will not just rise, she and those like her will win because that politics of personal destruction is coming to be seen precisely as the economics of trickle down: a con.

We have one shot at this and given that super majority, if we don't hit the target, we lose big, as in two incumbencies big because it usually takes that long to turn the zeitgeist. Don't waste this on the raging urge to take shots. "Just go away" is shallow. The pundits and entertainers who get stuck in that one note rant are the same as the "Drill Baby Drill" acts: destined for a fast fall down the charts. That is the logical flaw of "false consensus". It arrogantly presumes agreement when all there actually is is fatigue. Remember the "Silent Majority"? Once Wallace had delivered all the smirk and snark, Nixon rode to victory from the ashes of a destroyed career in which he too had walked away so they wouldn't "have Nixon to kick around". Don't make that mistake AGAIN.

Obama struck exactly the right note in Ghana. Kudos to the chief for acknowledging past injustices but putting the responsibility for tomorrow in the changes made today in education, corruption and enabling peaceful transitions among stable governments, the hallmark and sine qua non of true democracy.

I'm with you, Len...

Though I've certainly heard enough about Palin (and Michael Jackson too) it's only the media that's perpetuating what may be a non-story.

Let's hear about Sarah Palin when there is NEWS. Yes her resignation was news, but now we need to step back and see if she makes any other news... real news.

I'd mush rather spend the TV time on the Sotomayor hearing, health care reform, and international issues, including what is happening in Africa and what the African nations can do to alleviate the horrors.

Thanks, Len, for your perspective.
