Carl Smith, a 1950's country music & WSM star, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010 at the age of 82. He was really great. Made the country charts for over twenty years. Back when country music was really country music. I remember that my Dad had a couple of his vinyl LPs. Played 'em on the ol' Motorola record eater with the ten-pound tone arm!

Although not a "legend of folk music", actor Peter Graves passed away from a heart attack this past Sunday (3/14/2010). He was best known for his role as Jim Phelps in the "Mission: Impossible" tv series. I vote with both his co-star Martin Landau and the late Mr. Graves in their opinions that Tom Cruise did the Jim Phelps character a great injustice in the first Mission: Impossible movie (a nice way of saying that Cruise ****ed it up). It drive me nuts when they start screwing with established characters to the point that they're the opposite of their original concept. Maybe that's just a little part of what's wrong in the world. We need our heroes. Sure, you can give them flaws, but we still need them to be heroes. RIP "Mr. Phelps".
