Congratulations on your new governor, Cheryl H.! Big losers in yesterday's elections were Obama in VA and NJ and Palin/Beck/Limbaugh in NY's 23rd district upstate, where a Democrat got in because the Republicans and Conservatives got in a pissing contest.

2010 should be interesting, especially if the economy doesn't recover.

What IS this world coming to? Christie won by like 5% points in what most would consider an almost undemocratically democrat state. I mean when I had to register republican last time to vote for Ron Paul in the primary the area republicans were so happy they practically sent me flowers.

How soon people forget. Christie is from my neck of the woods. A few years back he was elected a Morris County Freeholder, and his own party dumped him locally. He was involved in some childish campaign stuff that brought on lawsuits and stuff.
His rise to power and the job he got as U.S. attorney was based upon him running the 2004 campaign for Bush in New Jersey.The2004 campaign, after Bush was already kind of a proven failure. Christie showed a total lack of good judgement in my view, but moved his career forward by being awarded the U.S. Attorney job by Bush as a reward. Frankly, as much as I dislike the man and his politics, he did a very good job as U.S. Attorney is taking down a multitude of corrupt officials. However, that sort of thing required a very different skill set than running a state. This guy sounds like a Bush clone on most public policy issues both social and financial, and I fear this guy will fail big time, although I hope he won't. OY!!!!!!!!!1

I look at last night and feel no more or less panicked than I did yesterday.

1. A swing back was expected. The highs and momentum of last year cannot be sustained. That coalition was fragile then and grows evermore so.

2. The economy is a tough nut. Fixes will be slow. The Republicans do better with Jobs Jobs Jobs than Democrats do with Feed the Poor from the Church Coffers.

3. Note the gay marriage issue tends to hobble the Democrats. Sometimes one supports an issue because it is the right thing to do. That one will always be a loser in popular votes even if it is the right thing to support. We want to feel good about this but it has a cost. 31 tries and 31 losses means it’s time to change strategy.

4. Better now than next year. It’s time to turn up some heat and slow boil the topics that will get more focus in the mid terms. Preparing political topics has a lot in common with preparing pinto beans. The voters are angry for good reasons. It’s time to quit blaming Fox and step up. Blaming Fox is just pig wrestling.

The Dems do need a dash of cold water. Both parties are riven with deep divisions. Some navel gazing and then some come to jesus meetings are useful right about now before the next series.

Throw the bums out. Incumbants suffer when things are bad no matter the root cause. Christie spews the Bush financial doctrine, and people seem to have forgotten that doctrine was part of the root cause of the mess we are in now. Corzine had his hands tied and was labled a failure by the Bushies for not cleaning up the Bush mess fast enough. that's Obama's job!

Good idea if you can get your hands on their raggedy a** coattails. OTW, swamp draining and gators, etc.

The Dems have to control the conversation better. It was easy to do during the election when Obama didn't own anything except a vague bio and a good speechwriter. This is the big game. The Repubs will whip up the Jobs Jobs Jobs theme, more gay-monster stuff, and try to make Obama responsible for TARP. Obama's done a lousy job so far stepping around the cow patties the BushMaster and his Evil Gang left for him. That was easily predicted so I am disappointed in his staff. They will get health care hung around their necks like an albatross.

He can't spend all of his time running his ass off to keep the other Dems in office in 2010 and still govern and he must govern well to win 2012. His staff has to come up to the line and play hard. Screw bipartisanship. The partisan's ain't bi.
