Sadly, haven't been able to work on doing a new Arlo site. I have so much going on like videos I am working on trying to get up on YouTube. Then Mon my Mom goes for knee replacement surgery & hopefully comes home on Thanksgiving. We hope. So I will be a busy beaver taking care of her & my dad. But I'll still be able to get online & do stuff. I'm trying to get thru doing the vids first and once I do those can hopefully start the other stuff like doing the websites all over again. Oh yeah, my mom could use some prayers & vibes.

I've met a few dj's & we've gotten to know a few of them like Chip Cook from WHAP (& used to be on WSSV too) and John Wood. Chio Cook is back on WHAP afternoon after 3 pm.

My cousin Tommy used to be a dj on WSSV in Petersburg, the old WLEE in Richmond & WIKI in Chester (RIP WSSV, WLEE & WIKI). I remember him taking my folks & I on a tour of WIKI once & seeing all the carts the had of 8-track tapes & their teletype machine. I'd turn my moms radio to WIKI when she was out of the room. She'd come back in & wonder why WRVA was playing that crazy stuff instead of that mor crap they were playing. The dj would come on and announce "This is WIKI the big 1410 on your radio dial". My mom would go "Okay now who changed the radio to WIKI"? It was only me as I'm an only child so guilty party here lol. They went to playing this ho-dad (hodad?) sounding country music in the early 70's & my cousin quit working there. Grandma loved it tho lol. They later went gospel which was okay by me. Better than the country format they had. All WSSV, WIKI & WLEE are all long gone but fondly remembered by me. In fact the reason the schools have to give special codes to the radio stations now when reporting school closures due to snow was. Way back in the 70's when I was in high school. It snowed one day & they announced on WLEE that the small private school I went to was closed due to the snow. So I didn't go to school. Went in the next day and found out they did too have school. Some kid had called in the school closure to WLEE pretending to be the old lady who ran the school so we could all get the day off lol. Lotta crazy stuff went on back in the 70's lol.

Here is another new video I did up. I came across some blogs of folks from Czechoslovakia, Russia, Yugoslavia and some other Soviet block countries where they had posted on their blogs the albums of 60's rock groups from their countries and you could download them to hear the music as it is probably very rare stuff. I downloaded some of the stuff and it was neat and really good. On one of the records was a version of Tommy James and the Shondells Mony Mony by the Yugoslavian Rock Group, Crni Biseri. How in the world that song made it over to the Iron Curtain back then with all the censorship is amazing. It is amazing how there were rock groups in Iron Curtain countries back in the 60's. Even more amazing is how our rock and roll music and British Invasion groups music made it over there back then. I'm sure this is a rare thing. Despite the persecution and being censored somehow these groups survived. It is neat to hear them singing in their native language. I made up a video of it. I definitely hope all goes well with your moms surgery. As I understand it the big thing is to do the exercises after the surgery. That's the way you get back full motion basically. A friend had it done and she was not real diligent about doing the exercises - it was painful - so she is stuck with a lesser range of motion. She's okay with that, but she wishes she had done better.
My wife had her hip replaced - she's 51(long story) - and said that was less of a problem than knee replacement is (that's what they told her at rehab in the hospital anyway).

Sounds like you were a little precocious as a youngster Cheryl. Or maybe just a bit ornery eh? It's weird to think they used carts. I always pictured them spinning 45s. I guess that explains why they wouldn't play B sides when I would request them eh? Although I'm sure they used to spin 45s before carts.

I've seen them play records 45's on the air. I used to go to a dentist who was in the same bldg as WSSV was. After going to the dentist I liked to go up to the 12th floor so I could view thru a glass the dj's spinning records. I remember that's where ya had to go when ya won a contest & had the pick up the prizes. Many yrs ago before becoming an Arlo fan (Thanks to renting the Alices video at Blockbuster in 1988), I won a contest from WSSV. I liked the song & CONO but knew no other songs of his so wasn't yet a fan. The question was what folksinger did This Land Is Your Land & who was his famous son. I knew it was Woody & Arlo Guthrie so I called in & was first caller and won! The prize was one of those KFC chicken dinners with the chicken, mashed potatoes and biscuit. My mom went & picked it up for me at KFC & bought dinners like it for her and my dad. I was probably in high school or college at the time. As I was eating the dinner I told my folks, if I ever meet that Arlo Guthrie guy I'll have to thank him for helping me win that chicken dinner. Little did I know of my future. And I met Col Sanders once. So that's how Arlo and KFC interrelate. And thanks for that KFC chicken dinner Arlo...

Hey Agnes -- I'm feeling really out of touch now. Turns out Weasel and Cerphe left (or were pushed out) of "The Globe" months ago; it had been awhile since I tuned in. However, it also turns out HFS may not be completely dead -- there's an HFS2 (www.hfs2.com) online and on HD Radio. Not sure what I think of it yet...but I did request a certain song for Thanksgiving.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery for your mom, Cheryl! My mother in law had both knee joints (one at a time) replaced about ten years before she passed away. She was diligent about doing the exercises, and had good results both times. She was able to walk without pain after she healed.

Thanks for the good wishes Sue and all. . The good news is she came out well. They think she could come home either Wed nite or Thurs. She wants to come home Thurs morning rather than have to come home Wed nite. They hope to have her walking in a coupla days. They talked like she came thru it very well. Prayers I know. She was groggy from the anesthesia and it made her nauseous and throw up. But that was to be suspected. My dad is hanging in there. I get to take care of him while she is in the hospital.

Anyway she came thru fine and we hope she will continue to do well.

actually, my prayers are for Cheryl Harrell, who is gonna be in for a good thumpin' with the whoop-ass stick when her mom gets that knee re-habilitated! Because after readin' this, her mom is gonna finally know FOR CERTAIN who was touchin' that radio dial all those years ago!!! (and not just wild flyin' squirrels that came swoopin' in and out of the open window like you probably fibbed at the time!!)
