Hi All, sorry if this has been asked before, but where was the restaurant from the song and movie? Someone said that it was in Stockbridge, down the alley near the Red Lion Inn and someone else said it was near the Church (the Guthrie Center). If anyone has noticed on Google maps, it lists an Alice's Restaurant almost next door to the Church. We just drove by there the other day and only saw an old white farm house. Does anyone know for sure.

40 Main St., Stockbridge, MA.

The front of the place is called the Main St. Cafe; down the alley is Theresa's Stockbridge Cafe, the old "Alice's Restaurant".

Actually a good six miles from the church in Great Barrington.

No; that location is based on a Wikipedia entry, I believe, and is incorrect.

Looks like it has been updated with the right information and a photo of the sign outside the alley. I had to ask around when we were in Stockbridge and phenomenally few locals could point it out to my surprise. If you look at

at 2:28 there are three photos of the restaurant: one in front and two inside.

For me, Alice's restaurant is not so much a geographical location as it is a state of mind......a place in the heart 8)

How does a restaurant owner recover his money from a non payee? I know that if you don't pay your restaurant bill you are required to wash the dishes to make up your cost. However, since the other dishwashers are still employed and therefore getting their salaries, how does the restaurant owner recover his money? I have never been able to figure that out.
