Now that I gots 2 teenage boys. One with long dyed black hair that covers one eye I get to hear a lot of different very loud bands. I'm even getting to the point where I can differentiate between ones I like and ones I don't. But like the 40-something mom that I am I just always worry that these guys are gonna totally blow out their voices by the time they're 25.
Had a fight with Tristan that he could not wear his Lamb of God tshirt to church on Easter. And have to tell them all the time that when an 8 year old is present the lyrics are inappropriate. The really go beyond the Anarchy In the UK shock lyrics of my youth!

Yeah, I came across some Christian screamo type bands on a Christian channel one night. I couldn't figure out what they were singing lol. I had heard of the Lamb of God group but have no idea what they sing. I noticed they had a religious type name so I decided to look them up & see if they were a religious group. Nope they were some type of metal group or something. Why they have a religious sounding name I dunno. Not my type of music...

Gimme some Judas Priest, Iron Maiden or Megadeth any day... This morning on the way to work it was Alice Cooper's "Trash" album...

I like Alice Cooper just fine but don't really care for the other metal groups. The only punk I care for is some Ramones like their first album and a groups I found online called the Punkles. They do Beatles music punk style and are surprisingly pretty good at it. I read online where they are all members of some other punk or metal group. I looked up some vids of their other group on YouTube but didn't really care for their stuff...

I'm all for people having the freedom to do whatever they like musically...it's great...as long as I don't have to listen to some of it. I really don't get the bands that are just screaming into the mic...or "cookie monstering". And that's fine...those people probably don't "get" me, either. It would be a boring world if we were all the same.
Funny, how your hearing changes over the years. I loved the loud bands when I was a kid and had great hearing. Now that I'm over 50, my ears aren't as sharp as they once were, and very loud bands drive me away; I can't take the noise any more. Makes my ears and head hurt!

i know that there are songs i like that involve screaming, but for me it is not about the decible level...sometimes it is the passion! sometimes it is just fun! hey!...what is 'cookie monstering'?

oh! i think that swedish band witchcraft is considered a metal band...but the first song i ever heard of their's was that roky erickson cover sweet honey pie...beautiful

Absolutely!!!

I was never a big fan of "heavy metal," but recently started listening to a couple of "cello rock" bands who do both their own material and covers of metal groups like Metallica and Megadeth, and I have to say it's given me a new appreciation for how beautiful some of the music can be. Also for what can be done with a cello. Also, it's quite hilarious in its own way.

Primitivity, a local DC cello group, appeared at the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage (all free stuff) last night and I really enjoyed it:
