Can't gloat too much - as Maryland (particularly PG Co.) is a fucked up state. Honestly, there was only ONE name on the ballot I was EXCITED to pull the trigger for - that being Charles Lollar - who actually gave career politician Steny Hoyer a run for his money. We seriously need term limits in congress!

The republican running against that crutchety old windbag Mikulski didn't even run any ads... And frankly, I'm not sure he woulda done any better!

And our Governer... Mr. OweMalley flat out lied about things, tried to cover shit up and still got elected. Of course he's also the one who axed the paper ballots that are physically acountable for and stuck us with those damn electronic machines that have been proven many times can be easily tampered with. Talk about stacking the deck in your favor.

Frankly the whole election in MD was a big fucking joke!!!

Ron Paul in 2012!!!

My little 23 yr old nephew posted this on Facebook and I thought it was funny lol

In the 90's we had Clinton in office. We also had Bob Hope and Johnny Cash. Now we have Obama in office and we have no Hope and no Cash...

....have just been reading through all your posts on this topic and is an eye opener for me.

we have all kinds of issues going on politically in the UK at present, probably too many to go into. to put in a nutshell, the people were tricked into voting for Liberal Democrats as it seemed Labour would have no chance due to increasingly difficult economic situation under previous Labour rule. what we have now is a Conservative/Liberal Democrat Coalition which is fucking killing us.

Cuts to pubic services, increased fees for higher education students which will lead to greater elitism and inequalities, introduction of means-tests for benefits such as Child Benefit (not a bad thing in my opinion if it was managed correctly and fairly) etc etc

One big mess.

One thing we do have, however unreliable it may be when you find yourself really needing help, is a National Health Service accessible to all. You may need to wait months for an operation, or be transferred to a hospital with available beds whilst in mid-labour...but it is always free. Prescriptions cost £7 something, we have Statutory Maternity Pay (not enough but at least we get something). It is, of course, paid for by us out of our taxes, but at least if/when the time comes, we can rest assured we should get help.

Am no patriot, in fact, am not even English by ethnic origin, although born and bred here, but when compare to situation elswhere, can't complain.

phew, I have gone on, haven't I??

I think greeneyes is referring to what is called "The Big Society" in Great Britain these days. Sounds like they're going through tough times like we are over here in "the colonies."
