DAMN this iPod! I can't view the videos. I really need to reclaim my pc from my girlfriend and her farmville addiction.

I, along with hundreds of others, were with them singing in Columbus Circle at 1 AM. Reg Faith Claeys also was there, though I only know that because she posted on Fb (haven't met any of you yet so don't really know what you look like (and vice versa)).

It was rather awesome. Tao organized it, and announced it on Fb and at the concert -- we left the theater around 11 and walked down -- it's about 35 blocks. Bunch of folks from OWS came up as well to join us. Pete, David Amran, Tao, Tom Chapin and his daughters were definitely walking the whole way; Arlo was at Columbus Circle but I'm not sure he did the whole walk (it was a big group, and there actually was supposed to be a post-concert reception for some folks after the show so he may have gone to that first).

Police along the way made sure we confined ourselves to the sidewalk because, you know, traffic was really heavy up there (NOT) and NYers otherwise never jaywalk (HA!). I walked down to Zuccotti Park during the day and then up to the concert afterwards and I'd have to say that, overall, both places had more civil nice people than anywhere else in NY and yet also had more unnecessary police presence. One good thing from all those police along the walk to CC, though -- didn't see anyone speeding down Broadway the way I saw them speeding elsewhere. An unintentional consequence, no doubt, but a good one.

I left here sometime back feeling out of alignment with the way things were headed. Tired of daves rants, seeing things were just going downhill all over. This is the first time I've looked in since then.

America has become so divided. These greedy dirt-bags are so very smart. Playing us against each other, and we're too busy fighting each other to notice their d's in our b's.

The money is long gone. But freedom has a cost. And it only goes up as our population grows. We can't turn a blind eye to that, or we will lose it.

For a long time I had lost hope that we could ever overcome this mess. I felt that we traveled so far down the wrong road, we were lost, and we could never remember how to get back.

I often asked myself why no one was asking how we got here, and how we are going to fix it. Where is the intelligent, articulate person who could explain what went wrong. And help us find those responsible, and hold their feet to the fire. And prevent it from ever happening again.

I often talked about my feelings to friends at work. I tried to explain how we are spending so much borrowed money on a couple of wars that in my opinion are making the problem worse. Both by bankrupting us and allowing us to be the best tool for strenghting the other sides cause. Then we spent billions more to bail-out those deemed too big to fail.

I told my friends that someday in the distant future I imagined we will hit the tipping point. I figured it would be a much worse time when things would be very out of control, and that only then people would wake up.

I imagined not being able to work and being unable to buy food. Losing our jobs, having no safety net. Trying to carve out of the land the things to try to sustain us. A full on struggle to survive.

I feel my wife and I raised our children well. We provided them the very best education. We provided them proper role models with our own community support work. They are great kids and we are so very proud of them, but I'd not seen many signs of their generations grasp of this problem.

Then up popped OWS. The more I read about it the more I felt this is what I've been waiting and looking for.

Much like when I was an impressionable 10 yr old, looking up to folks who stood up to the political/industrial war machine back then. I did sing louder. And we did stop the war. Then we got too busy in our own lives. And fell into a trap.

Flash-back to 1968...It was a crazy time to be 10 years old. Just a month after my brother and I rode our bikes across town to the Florin Mall and saw Bobby Kennedy speak at a quick campaign stop, he was killed. And only a few months before that Dr. King was killed. Riots in the streets. War on tv. I was so very happy later to hear the music and protests rising from Woodstock. It did change my life. And for a time I felt freedom.

So when I saw Tao, Pete, and Arlo, and co. supporting OWS I felt some of my lost faith, love, and hope restored.

I am thankful and hopeful that the way forward may not be as bleek as I imagined. I hope we can come together soon and work together to fix the problems that plague our country.

I see my old friend Jack Johnson will be singing at a fundraiser in the city just about now. I hope he reminds the president of the dreams so many of us share to get America off the path to skid-row, and back on the road to freedom.

I again hope.

@drr: Heard that and felt the same way, but the Arlo People have a common thread of humor and justice, even respect on occasion. So yeah, hope is alive.

Everyone finds a way to express it. Some with cheap signs; some with cheap songs. Arlo's my inspiration here. He makes the monsters funny and then they ain't so big.

So, yet another fast cheap video from my little room upstairs. Quality? Nah. But fun. And that is sort of important in my opinion. To keep the momentum and get some change, we can be violent and serious, or playful and funny. In the spirit of the Folkslinger, Wavy Gravy and the rest of the people who are serious about funny, here's another one. I hope it gets a few laughs. Just remember to tip your waitress. ARRRGH!

yes, i can think of some pretty dark periods, and dark thoughts....based on experiences in general, it could be hard to believe in anything at all. (that is the short sweet version)



i would like to say here that i have been able to get some idea about some of these these things thanks (in part at least!) to some of the folks here (perhaps at least one or two by now know who they are) trying to get at root causes of things....and i have much appreciation for that and for them.
