OK-so the Thanksgiving vibe is really building now and of course I began my ongoing listening to various Alice's Restaurant incarnations last week or so and I have a few questions friends:

On Tale's of 69-Alice Before Time began which morphs beautifiully from old macdonald to Alice (Although I would like to hear Arlo sing it in Egyptian some day) Arlo states there are four versions of Alice and no one likes each version (which I'm sure I would disagree with if I were able to hear all 4)-Can any of you crime fightin guys or gals on the bench name all 4 ? I can only think of the Massacree and the Spy Tingler ? Thanks friends !

This is a time line clarification: On Tales of 69 during the Spy Tingler Arlo gives the ususal references to Lyndon and his groovy defense plan. If the recording was made in 1969 then it must have been made before the end of January becuase Nixon was elected in the fall of 68. That would make it the last of the multicolored rainbow roach affair versions of Alice. To my knowledge Arlo never incorporated the Nixon administration into the tune.

The other two versions I can think of are "Alice's Rock'N'Roll Restaurant", a more radio friendly version without the story-telling, and the "Around the World" version, detailing how the song was spreading from the folk clubs to the war zones. The rock and roll version is interesting, but the around the world is pretty unfocused and really interesting only as a curiosity. The version I've heard is a live version that sounds like it may even have come before the "Massacree", if that's possible.

It's "Blunderology" not 'Arlogology"............trust me, I have a degree. And, in celery time, there is actually an infinate number of "Alice" versions, unless you count all of them. I hope this clears it up.

What the heck is this "Celery Time" I so often see mentioned here?

Think of it in terms of the comment you just posted. Did you really just post it? Or could it be that it was posted a while ago? Or maybe it is actually a future post? Celery Time allows for all of these options to in fact be occurring simultaneously. Arlo explains the concept on the live record he and Pete made back around the mid-seventies. Or maybe he's explaining it later.........

If you ask me tomorrow, I might answer you yesterday. It works like that.It could dive you crazy, but I figure in my case.... like many of us here, there ain't no sense in driving when it's really just a short walk.

Thanks Larry for the clarity? Blunderology works for me but I do prefer Arlocology (not Arlogology) because it came from my celery time but since you have a degree do you know the answers? "Infinite versions of Alice" is too philosophical for me. I'm searching for facts! Blunderful they may be.

Blunderology and Arlocology are almost the same thing I guess. It's easy to mix up ones "ologies".
