My children grew up with a treasured family tradition every Thanksgiving during dinner we were joined by Arlo Guthrie. He wasn't present at our table in person only in voice, his song "Alice's Restaurant Massacree" was played as we ate.

Our 4 children loved it as we all laughed about the lyrics and enjoyed the story telling prowess of Arlo.

The children are all grown and on their own and this Christmas they surprised my husband and I with tickets to "Here Comes the Kid" at the Birchmere in Va. We loved the show so much that we bought tickets to the show a week later in Manassas for the family so we could all go together.We all agreed we will be singing "My Peace" now every Christmas as a new tradition.

I just have to say thank you to Woody for the many gifts he left the world. His music inspires and delights,his writing is moving and flows like his songs. But the legacy he has left us in his Son and his family will continue to bless us for generations. And like his peace he has given this gift to all of us.

Hi Debbie, enjoyed your post. It reminded me of a young lady I use to care for. She was physically challenged and behind a small bit mentally due to CP. I played "The Motorcycle Song" for her, long and short versions, and she loved them. I am an LPN and the job is tough and I would play this song for my girl and between her wonderful laugh and Arlo's great music, well it always made my day. She would laugh and one day she said,"That man is an idiot!" I told her "But hey, the world needs idiots!" Think of her everytime I play the song. Glad you and your family got to see "The Kid" live.
