Was in The Corner Bakery about an hour ago for a late lunch with a good friend, talking (I was listening, mostly) about her having just lost her mom and having difficulties in her marriage and on the brink of losing her 17-year-old cat. Music was playing; we weren't paying attention to it until I heard "It's the 10th of January ..." We listened to "My Darkest Hour" and from there the conversation turned to be more about positive steps toward happiness. I blame Arlo and his music and my good Blunderite friends for that because they helped me emerge from a 'darkest hour' and that helped me know what to say (and not to say) to her. So once again, "thank you" is inadequate, but I don't know how else to say it.

I hope I'm not stealing Shelley's thunder, but I was going to post the following last night but got sidetracked.

For the last 2 weeks I've been feeling very panicky approaching the 1st anniversary of my heart attack. I wasn't breathing right, my lungs ached and I was getting chest pains. I attributed it to stress with Verna's illness and allergies, asthma. I finally got an appointment with the doc yesterday afternoon, the same time my daughter had an appt with her doctor for her asthma. I was really stressed and the anxiety was taking on a life of its own.

I told the doc about my fears, the anxiety, the Combivent inhalers I'd "inherited" from my father (around 30 of them) and how I'd used it the day before, only to have my heart racing, adding to my anxiety so I had finally taken a nitroglycerine, convinced I was on the verge of another MI.

The diagnosis is a lung infection that's very treatable with a 3-day dose of Z-pack and inhaled steroids (advair), probably from allergies. I noticed a major difference right after taking that first dose of steroid.

In the pharmacy waiting for my RXs to be filled, I was aimlessly wandering the aisles, looking at mundane stuff like nail polishes and school supplies when I slowly became aware of a song playing somewhere in the distance, very mute. I walked to where I thought I could hear better and sure enough it was CONO! It made my day! My spirits were immediately lifted and I felt the anxiety lift... so now I know... Arlo and steroids!

No toe stepping upon has occurred. The situations are totally different. I'm glad you had a lift like that when you needed it, Terrie--CONO always lifts my spirits, too, when I hear it on the radio or in a retail store or restaurant. But Darkest Hour? I've never heard it on the radio before, much less in a chain restaurant. And my friend had never heard it at all. That particular song playing when it did just seemed magical, in the circumstances.
